10.7 CSS

When I returned to forex trading after a period of absence BOB told me to learn CSS inside out. This was the best single advice I have had in trading. Before I used to be classed a counter trend trader, now days I prefer the title of CSS trader. At first I did not grasp the concept of the car accelerating and decelerating. After few reads and studying the examples it was much clearer. I also made a few bullet points of BOB`s teaching as quick memory joggers in my trading note book. I hope some people find this post helpful. These are extracts of BOB`s posts and I am quoting him.

* Best CSS signals are at the beginning of a session. Volume increases at start of session and peaks 2 to 4 hours.

* When a currency is stronger than the other, the stronger currency will be up.

* When two currencies are parallel up/down/flat, they will range but the stronger currency will have stronger moves.

* When the CSS lines cross back and forth the price ranges but the moves are still good.

* When 2 lines cross and angling in opposite directions you have the best trend moves

* When they cross outside +20 and -20 in opposite directions you have strong trend moves (i.e. from inside +20 or -20 to outside)

*When they cross outside +20 or -20 you will have good moves because they are both travelling fast.

* When they cross inside +20 / -20 they are both starting to accelerate from 0, but the one angling up towards +20 will be stronger.

* When a currency above 0 is angling strong down and a currency below 0 is angling strong up they are both decelerating and they will range until the cross or change of angels, however, the stronger currency has the advantage.

* When two currencies are running parallel to each other they are ranging. Does not matter if they are flat parallel, angling up or angling down. They will range but the higher one has the advantage.

**REMEMBER MARKET RANGES 70% of the time.

Please feel free to add any points that I may have missed.

Kind regards
Very helpful bullet points. Thank you.
But this bullet points pertains to the reading of the DAILY CSS?

Please clarify.

HI

Yes these are with D1 time frame. Mind you it is equally valid with other TFs. Bear in mind these are based on TMA which is based on moving averages and as the term implies they MOVE. So Daily is more reliable than H4 and H4 is more reliable than H1, etc. If you wish to be ultra conservative you can trade when D1 and H4 CSS are both in the same direction. Regardless of your trading system and or triggers, you will find that you will have better results when you trade in the direction of CSS.

Last week BOB mentioned that he was experimenting with lower TF CSS and trading with a cross of CSS as the trigger. This can be an exciting development in the use of this valuable tool. However, please do not rush into it till we have enough evidence that it is doable. BOB was a bit depressed in his last few posts because of the fiasco with the criminal Cowboy IBFX. He has taught us almost everything we need to succeed in forex, regardless of the state of the markets (trending, ranging, etc). I hope we can assist him in someway to overcome the latest demoralizing tricks of the criminals.

Kind regards

Maybe someone could help me with CSS, from one day to another the lines disappeared from my chart, but this only happens in 30 minute TF, it works ok on the others! Really strange, no?

I've removed it, inserted other CSS versions and the 30 minute doesn't show anything...

If someone has any idea how to solve it...thanks!

What is the significance of the absolute numbers of the CSS?

For example USD = 1.39 and AUD = - 1.32 sometime during today.

I understand that real acceleration starts at 0.2 and - 0.2, but how do the numbers above relate to these?

Basically this numbers are telling you how strong a down or up trend of the currency is, the CSS is based on calculation of the TMA slope the currency has with the other currencies in the slected pairs in the TF you are using.

Thanks for your quick reply, much appreciated.

Just noticed that the JPY has been down to - 1.91 in January 2013, there is so much fascinating information to be gleaned form CSS!

Hi Vivienne,

Thanks for sharing your experience, gave me light for me.
However, although I am reading CSS first 2pages more than 20times and Bob's other thread until I literally throw up, I am still suffering with my accounts bleeding. :arrrg:
FYI, I have been trading live almost 4yrs..Going nowhere..

I trade asia, europe mainly and sometimes US sessions, I prefer to trade short timeframe (5M or 15M)as entry TFm along with 4-6 times higher TF as supporting.

I believe I have enough knowledge of price action, manipulation/key levels etc. But always get lost when choosing pair to trade. Also, too much knowlege of too many strategies which gets in the way when trading live.

I thought CSS will help me to pick up the pair to trade, but Daily timeframe seems to be far out from my trading.

How could CSS be interpreted for intraday trading? This is still ???.

I tried 10.6 but got nowhere overwhelmed by 20+ charts, and sometimes freezing my PC.

100pips per trade, each trade RR 1:3 my minimal goal for now. I quit my job to focus on trading,,,

I love the approach and Bobs teaching and comments. But still, I am drowning...
Aprreciate if Bob or anyone can provide me with advice or sharing experience if something clicks...

Hi Bob

As a long time lurker of the forum, I'd like to report (finally) on my progress, and to to thank you for your teaching, and sharing of your methods.
I had been trying to learn the art of currency trading for almost two years with little success, I somehow stumbled on Steve's forum, and Bob's methods - I think it was 10.2 then, but it all looked a bit complicated, so I persisted with my one trade at a time - looking for the home run, let the profit run mentality, as widely taught. I'm sure if applied correctly, these trading methods can work, but they did not for me :arrrg:.

I kept receiving the weekly "Good Luck" email from Steve (thank you Steve), so about a year later decided to have another look. It has taken me some time to get my head around everything (not helped by moving from New Zealand to Ireland!) however, as I began trading again, following Bob's advice, gradually I am beginning to recoup my losses - making more (still on penny lots here) in a few months than I did in years, and not having the losses. I think reading Bob's Philosophy of Trading was crucial for me - a real change of trading mindset. I don't obssess over one trade - I have lots of tiny ones running, if they are negative for a while that's fine (I'm mainly taking +ve swaps trades, so that mounts up too) when I see profit, I take it, and if the move continues, I just get in again.
I watch CSS, use 10.7 on 4hr & 30m - I still like Dummy Lights, and use TMA. I accept a 10% drawdown, but try to stay under that. My trading is now relaxed, routine, and satisfying as those little trades mount up. I used to be taught to aim for a "home run" every week (100 pips) Now I can achieve that most days (on average). This is not to boast - but to encourage others.

So, for lurkers like me, please keep trying, it takes time, but with perseverance it can happen

Thank you Bob for your kindness & patience

As I understood CSS, it is better to read it in Higher TimeFrames, for example H4. It could give you the general direction of the strengthness of 2 pairs you want to trade. Especially If the 2 curves are diverging outside the +20/-20 zone then it could be a good opportunity
Then if you trade on Lower TF, go there and put accordingly the Pending orders
