Is not on my monthly charts.
as I tried to understand:
If I go back 15 years on the EURUSD chart the lowest price was somewhere around 0.82 in 2000, the high at 1.60 in 2008.

So why saying its ranging the last 15 years between 1.25 and 1.50?

A short history of the EURO:

The name euro was officially adopted on 16 December 1995. The euro was introduced to world financial markets as an accounting currency on 1 January 1999, replacing the former European Currency Unit (ECU) at a ratio of 1:1 (US$1.1743). Physical euro coins and banknotes entered into circulation on 1 January 2002, making it the day-to-day operating currency of its original members. While the euro dropped subsequently to US$0.8252 within two years (26 October 2000).

Once the physical money entered the market the EURO moved up until it hit its limit and then went into its normal range. For a currency to move out of its normal range extreme economic conditions must be happening to get it out of its comfort zone.

When a currency lowers, the price of its products get cheaper and it sells more of its products. (What JPY is trying to do to spur its economy) As price lowers volume of business increases, more people become employed, more jobs are to be gotten, wages increase with the demand of workers, people spend more money, inflation begins to rise, interest rates go down, investment goes up, debt goes up, etc. etc.

As inflation rises the brakes are put on to slow the increase so you dont have runaway inflation. Debt increases, people start spending less money to pay down debt, interest rates are raised to slow the overheated economy down. The currency begins to rise in value as the brakes are put on, people quit acquiring debt, with the rising value prices go up, less money is spent, companies quit investing, raises become stagnant, companines begin to lay people off, less efficient companies or ones without assets go out of business, a recession sets in, etc. etc.

The balance between the too extremes is the range of a currency. As we can see from the typical Euro range the price of the currency is entering its lower range of 2004,2005,2008,2010,2012. The real big boys will be preparing to start placing their buys. (Watch the COT reports) So when everyone else is selling the big boys are getting ready to place their buys because they understand that the EURO is nearing its bottom. The SNB is once again buying massive amounts of EUROs and Selling CHF because they can sit on a currency for months and years knowing that once it bottoms out, it will go up again.

If you trade low leverage, like 1:1, the difference between 1.25 and 1.20 is five cents. That is why traders trade in tiny fractions of a dollar, or euro, or jpy, etc. but the big boys trade in real money or pennies. If they buy in the 1.20 to 1.25 range and price goes to 1.50 like in Jan. 2008 and 2010 and you make 15-20% on billions and billions of dollars, like the big banks do, you can see the profit potential can be massive.

So if you look at the SNB reserves they are close to 47% of its holdings and they are now increasing their holdings in the euro. They know that the value of the EURO will go up starting at some point, probably next year and they load up on the cheap price and are selling the USD which is now at a high price.

We cant trade that way because we dont have the assets to trade that way but I like watching the big boys and when they start buying you know 6 months, a year down the road the currency will move back up. The old adage of buy low and sell high is fundamental to trading. My questions is this, how many people were buying stocks in 2008? Were you? That was the time to buy.

When analyzing the EURO you should not discount the Germans. Euro is a GOD send for the Germans. If you recall before the advent of Euro Germans were always suffering because of the high value of the D.Mark. As an export orientated economy this high valuation of their currency was working against their exports. However, with Euro this problem has been solved for them and that is the reason they are willing to bank roll the other members of the Euro club. Germans as the strongest economy of the Euro zone are doing very well with a low valued Euro and they wish to keep it that way. By rights Spain, Portugal and other east European members should not have been admitted to the Euro but the Germans need these weak economies to keep the value down.
Kind regards

Yup. One of the problems of a fixed rate currency (see gold) Why I believe a world wide currency would never work. The Euro shows the problem of a regional currency. So our trading careers seem to be safe. Well until the next NFA rulings come down the road.

Bob,
Thank you for the nice comments you made a while back on the entry from my Gann manual. I have been fighting Bronchitis all Summer and only recently saw the entry. I have finished a second course of antibiotics and just maybe I have beat this thing. Time will tell. I have a lot of catching up to do and have notice a lot of very interesting new topics in the Forum threads including your 11.0 thread. I find a break away from trading helps to focus my mind more when I return to it. Probably good to take some breaks once in a while but I rather it not be of the sort I just have passed through. :D

Cheers, :)

Well Doug welcome, I am going to take a break and relax from trading for a bit. I may go to Bei Hai for a couple of days and then maybe Japan next month. My wife is going back to the USA for a month to start house hunting. See what she can dig up.

Enjoy your break BOB. Are you moving to Sunny California or somewhere else? You will make us very happy if you decide to fly via London when you make the arrangements for moving permanently to the USA.
I am amazed you have managed to live in China for such a long time. Because China is a very beucratic communist country and Americans are not used to that. Mind you with the US forex trading laws, it makes me wonder how free USA is!!!! Even China does not have such extraterritorial laws for its citizens.

Kind regards

My wife is taking the break, I still have to work. I just looked at my screen about 2 weeks ago and said, I am just tired of doing this (trading) right now.

China was a surprise to me in the amount of freedom they have here. Not the same as we do but not repressive like elsewhere, at least on a day by day living basis. I guess the best way to explain it is if you are not considered a threat to the party they pretty much leave you alone. So as long as you dont get too riled up and just live you have a limited amount of freedom. For the average Chinese person this is probably one of the best periods of their history. They work, get days off, have holidays, can travel in or out of the country, and have enough disposable income to enjoy time with friends and family. Their lives are simpler than ours but that is changing.

When I first came here it was like a breath of fresh air, not the real air though. Few people had cars, the pace was much slower, really didnt have traffic laws, people just rode on their bikes or motorcycles anywhere they wanted. When I first got to Nanning they had just installed traffic lights and no one was following them. If there was any kind of accident they had street court. People would gather around each side in a circle with their witnesses and told their story to the crowd. Then there would be a general consensus of who was right and who was wrong. They would agree to some kind of fine and everyone went back to their business. One time at an intersection of 5 streets there was a crash between a taxi and a bus (they generally hated each other) and a lively debate took place that took almost an hour. All of sudden bus drivers and taxi drivers from all over would show up to testify. Really fun to watch, bus taxi accidents were always my favorite to watch. Anyway the whole intersection shut down and no one was going anywhere. The number of people in the circle easily was several hundred.

Such was life back when I first got here. If you said you will meet someone at 4 maybe 5 or 6 before they got there and they would stay for half the night. Now its cars everywhere, traffic cops at every major intersection to keep things moving and Nanning is now a hustle and bustle smog filled city. I missed the simple days of just 10 years ago.

I have enjoyed my stay here, the people are gracious and kind. They remember the Flying Tigers of WW2, the dogfights used to be fought over the city, so they are very appreciative of Americans in this part of the country. The old timers will tell stories of how their parents helped downed pilots get back safely and several villages have kept pieces of US planes as memorials. So for me its been pleasant journey. Still I must always remember there are certain subjects you dont talk about openly. The blocked internet is a pain and Chinese TV can be lame at times but overall its been a good experience. The bottom line is people are people no matter where you go in the world. They want to live, enjoy life, and be able to do the things they love. In China you just stay out of the political arena and you will do fine.

Pollution here is much lower than the rest of the country. Really no comparison however, starting early last year the pollution has picked up and is getting worse. I use an air cleaner and filter in my home here now so that helps but my time here is clearly coming to an end. My wife leaves in 24 hours back to the USA and one the docket is house hunting. So we will see how it goes.
