Hi everybody,

here is an indicator that will paint fractals based on bars' closing prices instead of classic highs/lows.
It has one input parameter ShowOnlyFractalsThatAreAlsoClassicFractals which when set to True will paint only those fractals that are also classic fractals.

Also, please note that ZZ leg should connect only valid fractals.

Yes, I keep that in mind.
At first, I wanted to implement the valid/invalid logic into the indicator, but then, when importing ZZ legs into my DB I would not know which ZZ legs are invalid because there would not be any invalid fractals So I decided to show all. But when I think of it now, better solution would have been to add another input to show/hide the invalid ones. I might repost it when I have time.

How it all began - a Bed-time story...:

Once upon a time I tried the Hurst indicator that I came acrros. It looked nice, but I couldn't find use to it in real Forex trading.
I went the extra mile and read about the guy, Harold Edwin Hurst. It turns out that he was hydrology expert, studying the river Nile floods and overflows.
Ok, I said to myself, now I understand why it doesn't work for me in Forex... HUGE mistake!

A few years later I watched Bill Williams lecture, quite bored, until he started to mention "Natural flow", WATER, RIVER, and such.
"...price will go where there is least resistance, like RIVER or WATER flow according to the river bed..." or something like that.

Bells started ringing in my head...

Suddenly I remembered what I read about Harold Edwin Hurst, who died years before (1978), and start digging.
It turned out that "Fractal geometry" and "Fractal dimension" was the basis of Hurst hydrology research - combined with "Long time memory" of "Time series"... and I thought that Fractals are Bill Williams creation...

Ahhhha, now I see the connection...and went to implement.

.. wait, don't you mean "Fractal geometry" as in Benoit Mandelbrot ? :)

Deep stuff G, thanks! When I was single, these are the sort of clues I would spend my weekend on (and I have a long weekend coming up!); digging and un-earthing secrets and gems. Now with family, it's a lot trickier :)

I actually tried out creating the sets in your last thread (really tried) but didn't go far. I came to realize I'm very poor at indis ( I get 'overloaded' by them pretty fast ). Then throw in the element of statistics (ZZ legs, et al), and it was a rock from there on. [ It's probably coz I learned how to trade (from the first weeks) on an empty chart, just candles, lines and sometimes Fibs ]

I hope sooner rather than later I can get a free week (somehow) and really start to dig into this, deep inside I know there are gems waiting to be un-earthed...

I checked the uploaded version, it seems ok to me. Remeber, invalid fractals are hidden by default, you need to set the input parameter ShowInvalidFractals to true.
Invalid fractals don't occur very often, usually over a weekend, holiday or if there is an error in data lika missing candle. The most recent invalid fractals (for AlpariUK broker) occured on November 7th and 10th and they are the last fractal on friday and the first one on monday. See attached screenshot.
