I changed some settings and am testing these at the moment.
It's still early day's, we need at least a few weeks worth of data to be sure.

I counsel anybody against using a setfile provided by anyone else. Do not expect it to work for you just because it works for the provider.

I have occasionally toyed with the idea of banning members from uploading setfiles. Come to think of it, I have just worked out how to do so and will give this matter some serious thought.

Two people can start an account at exactly the same time, with exactly the same setfile/pairs/ea. One will make a killing. One will lose his account. And all points in between.

Why?

Because different brokers = different feeds = different results.

There is no way around that guys. Use someone elses setfile in the hope that it will work for you is like pissing into the wind. If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction...............

Up to you whether you believe me or not but it is a fact; you have to work out how to make SBB work for yourselves.

Going to give some really serious thought to disabling the posting of setfiles at shf as a protection measure for the less experienced here.

IMO - getting+testing the settings of others trader fellows here after using them successful for a longer time is always worth a try + it's a good start of individual testing ! But its only a start for a own detailed testing. So, in any case others here may perhaps have a chance - maybe it could work for them ! So I wouldn't ban posting of settings to strictly

I know what you mean, but most people want setfiles so they do not have to do their own thinking. We both know where that leads.

Tricky decision, I understand both point of view.

Having settings of other traders gives some ideas and a direction but as said by AGT it is just a start.

Even if many traders are having good results with a setfile, I would never use it live without intensive testing on demo, and nobody should.

If I have to vote, I would say we should continue to share setfiles. It is the responsablility of the user to make his own due diligence.

I have set multiple charts with SBB today, and todays the winner are:

- M15 with trend and CT trades : + 911 pips closed and + 45 floating (max DD 376 pips)
- M15 with trend only : +626 pips closed and – 30 floating (max DD 92 pips)

M30, H1, and H4 are not that good at the moment.

But it is just a start.

I'm afraid the argument is blown away slightly by what The Software Developer/s is already quite sensibly trying to achieve by releasing EAs with "reasonable default settings". There is vast benefit and value in having OOTB settings and other folk's work that are in with a chance of working more-or-less-OK. Users then have somewhere to start their explorations from with the benefit of saving possibly months of work getting to the same place.

So yes, you need to keep explaining to everyone, not just the Noobs, that a particular OOTB config or a specific Set file is not the Holy Grail... but don't make everyone do a vast amount of extra work just because some daft bugger may expect a particular Set file to work like a magic wand.

What I get from this forum is some great ideas already reasonably well formed. Some I might be able to improve on, modify, incorporate or develop, but it is a lot easier starting from somewhere that already works reasonably well, so please don't stop posting working Set files!

If I have made some dumb entry in my own set file I can compare with someone else s without asking here and risk getting in trouble... Also when testing the same set files - starting at the same time with different brokers - even when results are completely different - it is still useful information. And to take it one step further - we might even be better off testing the same set files to compare brokers, time frames, start times, etc....

I agree Steve but banning set files will make no difference. Dumb asses will remain dumbasses.

However for those with a brain, the people like Gertjan who have great ideas won't be able to share them, which I think would be a great shame.

They are, after all, just sharing ideas. What people do with them is their own problem.
