cuzgeorge wrote:This leads me to my first question, please don't shoot me down here, i know it's going to look simple to you, but please, read me through;

Code: Select all

extern int TrendConfirmationCandleTF=15;//Candle for confirming the trend as a trade trigger
the above code refers to A TF for trend confrmation, are you sure it's a TF and not the bar count????
God-help me!!!
Yes. Time frame. The comment is a bit misleading; a coder's comments are intended as a memory aid for the coder; I know what I meant. :lol:
If you're still reading means i'm spared from the lions;

my second is the AllAverages indicator suggested in the code below. I have the indi in the correct folder and i have changed the settings to what i'd like to test. This will obviously filter through to the EA through the icustom command. In your opinion, am i doing more damage by doing this and messing with the symphonie system and your EA, or is it good practice to make changes like this. ? AM i supposed to keep it simple, or is it on good advice to tinker so much.?

Code: Select all

 return(iCustom(NULL, 0, "AllAverages_v2.1 cc", tf, price, period, mashift, method, buffer, shift));

}//End double GetAa(int tf, int price, int period, int mashift, int method, int buffer, int shift)

double GetAtr()
AA is no part of Eval's system. It is an indi that customarily ships with all my EA's. Experiment with it or not as suites you best. In my experience, traders are inveterate tinkerers and often arrive at solutions far removed from those of the op. The op is one individual; out there are many tinkerers who may or may not be able to move the strategy to a new level.

Code: Select all

bool IsTradeAlreadyHedged(int index)
{

   /*
   Trade will already be hedged if:
      - there is an opposite direction trade open
      - the opp trade has a lot size x HedgeLotsMultiplier
and finally, according to this code above, if for eg, i have a EURUSD position going long at a full point, and a USDCHF position going short for a full point, would the hedge still kick in for both pairs, or does the EA regard these positions as hedged already?
Both. If a pair needs hedging then it needs hedging. EA regards hedging as applicable to an individual pair, not correlated pairs now.

Couldn't ask your questions one at a time in future could you, pleassssssssseeeeeeeee? :lol:

Hi George, what I find true for me is I have to get away from a system so that I can revisit it later with new eyes. This has helped me with handicapping horse races. Every time I take a break from them I come back with new insights and my game improves. I will no doubt revisit Symphonie. For right now I am happy to let my 2 demo setups just run with out me observing to much. In a month or two I will revisit them to assess there viability. I am always learning. I just read a really good article on optimization.
"How Not to Fall into Optimization Traps ?" http://articles.mql4.com/479. Terrific article. Don't let the math scare you it not necessary to understanding the article. This is the general aproach I take to optimizing my settings. Than I foward test based on numbers I have some confidense in. The fellow who wrote this has a good understanding of statistical analysis and how to advoid curve fitting. This is just as important in horse racing where I am using simlar methods to build various track models. There is always this danger. Except my professional horsecracing software is a scalpal compared to the rusty table knife Empty4 presents in its tester. :D

Hi Slowkey,
thank you for the link, i will definately follow it up.

i love your analogy to horse-racing even though i feel like the lure used in greyhound racing sometimes. hehe.

i find your practice is good for the soul too, will also be taking a break for the easter holidays, time with family and look after my business a bit, going down to the coast with my boys for a few days too. been neglecting all with all the setting up, trading eatser rush etc etc.
i will be setting up as described above for the weeks coming up. i am keeping an eye on your accounts too and won't post until i have definative results that are clear-cut. thank you for your insight as it's much easier to test like this with you. you were right about the TF's and it's now very clear on my side. You can't scalp symphonie and the short bursts for quick pips are not an option here, maybe manually traded, but not with the EA.
I also like your RSI creativity, good to see a different approach like that. i'm no expert at number-crunching so it's also great to read post's from members here who clearly have a much better understanding.
please check my settings in the comment box when you get back into the EA, as i will be changing in the course of the next day or two. you understand the basics i mentioned, but the AAverages and hanover etc, will be tinkered with. I'm especially looking forward to having a go at the metals with this symphonie.

kind regards and happy holidays. 8-)

Hi Steve,

did you update the Symphonie EA on the first page to Symphonie 3.0.1?

This way you move into the position at the time to catch the 'meat' Eval was talking about, and avoid all the false signals. This i mean of LhDT's comment about using ADX.
The indicators must line up, all of them. A position has to exit the moment a bar closes and and any of the exit conditions are met, as is with the latest version.

Thats when the 'repaint play' comes into the picture, if the market moves in the same direction again. Eval often mentions this that it's not over untill all the indicators show the opposite direction, especially his trendline. Not following this was vital to the symphonie system.

my new 5c into the formula, thoughts anyone please?

George, remember this bit from post 1? "A contributor asked me to take a look at Symphonie shortly after I started this forum, but I declined because of my dislike of trading systems that require several pretty-coloured thingies to line up."

I often describe myself as, "Just the mechanic here" or somesuch - meaning that I am merely coding in response to other peoples' ideas. This is more true sometimes than at others.

Here, it is 100% true. I dislike Symphonie and cannot envisage trading it on a live money account. I dislike it because it requires several pretty-coloured thingies to line up before a trade is triggered. In my experience, by the time they all line up, the move is all but over.

That is OK here, because Eval is up front about not trying to catch the start of the move. I can even entertain dim hopes that my last para might one day be triumphantly deleted. Dim hopes, and I doubt it.

Relevant to here, what this means is: I do not keep up with developments in Eval's threads and so have no idea what is going on in them. If there is a thingy happening that I can code and that you feel is useful, then I will code it, but I need a blow by blow description of what that thingy is. I have no idea what your previous post refers to.

Cheers

:D

Steve,

Does this mean you are giving up? Are you saying the Symphonie System cannot be made into an EA?

Steve,

Hey Eval, you bliksem, ask X-man what that means, hehe.

thanks for the line, Steve has got a gazillion of EA's and posts to get back to, and has left the labour work to guys like me. This EA is definately not dead, just with work, easter and all the commitments going on right now has made me a little scarce and i dare say some others too.
i have left the EA's to run on the myfxpage for all this time and when i get a chance, i'm checking up on them, but really, nothing to write home about. slowkey had similar results on his myfxpage on the higher TF's.

Slowkey through a curve-ball the other day when we were discussing methods to test this and while testing with a static market over the week-ends, i had a 'uereka' moment, could'nt wait for monday morning to test out the new settings. As you know, static markets and live are very different, although the results were better than before , but not at all what the week-end charts promised.
I will be changing over to the new settings in the course of the next day or two and will post the links to the myfxpage again for all to see. remember to check the comment section under the 'history' tab , or 'open trades' to see what settings i'm using. (basic setting sthat i can fit in the comments tab).

i was very fond of , and familiar, with your previous indi's. The new one's , especially the extreme with the new r-s-u settings have left me confused initially and it's taking a while to get used to them and how they react to changes made to their respective settings. Getting on with it though but running some with old settings and older SymphonieEA from Steve too.
this is where the confusion is coming up for me as there is too much to keep up with and i'm using too many demo's and different br0kers.
i'm going to have to cut down and i'm going to stick to the two i use for live accounts. Markets.com and Ava demos. I have 3 demos from each that dont expire and will link those accordingly for testing.

one of the biggest breakthroughs for me, was something slowkey said about the settings. It seems it might be a better idea to 'tune' the EA's , one for a buy and one for a sell , different magic numbers , and different charts, but both on say EURUSD. i find this is promising. It's also visible in the Cowboy IBFX NON-hedge criminal i put this EA on in the myfxbook page dingus's, with settings to lean towards a one-way buy.well, The negative thing here is we are finding ourselves moving more away from the original system that you developed, by introducing some of the options that Steve has allowed in the EA.
Having said this, i am trying to play more with the INDI settings as opposed to adding more thingies to the picture. There are just so damn many, and i dont particularly understand any very well, and having a fundamental understanding of each setting is vital, and will eradicate any unnecessary hiccups along the way. I'm lacking here so i will be sending you the EA's as i've changed them and you can run them on a demo for a week. It will be a great help to have your input here Eval, as i feel like i'm looking for the pin in the haystack right now, and your understanding of the indis is far better than mine. You did develop them, so there's no better person to comment and make suggestions than you. :geek:
As mentioned before, i'm making the most losses when a market ranges, thats why we need some input from others as to what to try with the EA. i hope it has legs so others can help us along, but Steve will be more than willing to make changes i'm sure if we asked nicely, hehe.

If these settings get working i'd like to post them here, but right now, i'm far from that. will check with Steve about that also.

regards and happy pipping,
cuzgeorge

A couple of days ago, Wapen pm'd me asking me to code a Renko variant of Symphonie trading. I shall be posting this soon.

Earlier tonight, cuzgeorge sent me a pm asking where he should post his own variant.

This gave me the idea of starting S's individual forum, so I have created this and moved this thread to its new home.

So, should anyone wonder why this thread has moved, this is why.

Eval,

The more important question is if the current EA on Post 1 is replicating your manual trading? I have not seen much feedback on how the current EA is working from your perspective, which is the most important perspective. Are we even on the right track? Or are we in left field? :lol: And if the EA is not working, where are we off? Since it seems like your original triggers were all mechanically coded into the EA, what in Symphonie System is subjective because that is what can be explain the difference in results from manual trading to EA? What other things needs to done besides lining up indicators, and triggering a sell or buy on those indicators...seems pretty straight forward to me.

Your guidance is appreciated.
