Thanks for the page. It makes a lot more sense to me know. I would never have found it either being under "PrintFormat". I guess I don't have that coders brain yet . Isn't it funny how so many of these old things are left in the systems. Thing is, a lot of it can't be changed or everyone will be left up the creek without a paddle.

Screen space is definitely going to be an issue if there is something attached to the window instead of being floating like the current alert window.
I'll have a poke around and see if I can find something that might suit. Don't hold your breath though, it could be some time before I get back to you

Don't worry. I might have a coders brain, but don't have a traders brain ... and you don't get very far in Forex without that. That's why I rely on good traders around here to give me ideas to code.

I am really thinking out loud here so feel free to shoot me down. What if we had a separate dll that handled the Alerts display? The Empty4 Alert is one of my pet hates and I can't understand for the life of me why the developers waste half the screen like they do.

Good idea, but it needs to be callable from MQL4. Also, it would be nice if the window created from the dll, would be a child window from the Chart window, so that it minimizes and is destroyed if the chart window is minimized or destroyed. These sort of things are actually harder to achieve than you think.

I think that this is a 'codepage' problem ... probably your PC is setup with UTF-8 as the default codepage. I created a script that creates characters on the screen. If you are willing to, you might want to experiment with the codepage parameter on line 56:

ObjectSetText( charName, MyCharToStr(nChar, CP_ACP), 9, symbolFont, clrWhite );

Try replacing CP_ACP with CP_OEMCP, CP_MACCP, CP_THREAD_ACP, CP_SYMBOL, CP_UTF7 or CP_UTF8 and see if you get eg. an up arrow for char 233.

Let me know how you go ... it would be nice to fix this for our chinese friends.

Haha you're doing better than me. I lack a coders brain and a traders brain. Though I can fell them slowly starting to grow past that blastocyst stage of development (I hope)

A really stupid (so stupid it may be smart) solution could be for the alerts to be printed in the alerts tab of the 'terminal'. Of course this is only good for those of us with more than one display. I already have the terminal on one screen and charts on the other screen. At least the terminal window doesn't have a a mass of dead space.
I'm not really sure why the alerts don't come up in the alerts tab. is just because that print function hasn't been put in or is it that it's just not possible?

I'm really starting to show how green my horns really are here.
It seems the alerts come up in the experts tab. a little unexpected but at least they're there. The only problem with this is that every time you change time frames you get all the alerts for indicators reinitializing. I think this is probably more annoying than where I am at now with the wasted space in the alert window

This new script also prints the terminal's codepage. Mine is 0. For those who are struggling with the WingDings symbols, can you report what your codepage is ... using this script?
