Hi Gertje & Dave.
Have you noticed a big difference in results when switching to Monday trading instead of Tuesday?
Is there no difference? Or do you have another reason for starting on Mondays?

Hi there,
just a bit of advice regarding "jumping in" and expecting the same results with the same settings as PP has been producing so far.
Since the strategy was published here in Oct last year, we have had some nice strong trends, which is exactly what the strategy/EA has been produced to catch - and hence the good results, with low DD.
Bear in mind, that when (not if) these trends dies out or reverses, we will have a period with "chop" and draw down.
So please don't go live and expect the very same results, nor "bet the farm"...DD will come, so adjust your MM accordingly.
I am not saying that PP will turn into a looser, (the pending orders will keep you out of most trouble), but just be careful if going live and set the expectations realistically.
Also don't consider trading PP less than 3-6 months before you evaluate your results. PP is a marathon EA, not a sprinter EA.

I couldn't agree more. I have been testing this since it was kindly shared by PC and I haven't gone live yet. Why you might ask when I have seen very good results? Well I wanted to see how it dealt with various Forex events such as December holidays and being switched off, multiple NFP's and perhaps most importantly MAJOR trend changes - for followers of Bob you will know these don't happen very often but testing these is essential to long term success with a major trend following EA.pipcruiser » Tue Jan 27, 2015 9:23 am wrote:Hi there,

spotdespot pm'd me pointing out a logic flaw that will stop a lot of trading on Tuesdays and cause all D1 candles to be 2 days ago rather than yesterday, depending on your individual broker's open time.
V 1j is in post 1. Make your own changes thus:
Change line 3767 from:
int day = TimeDayOfWeek(TimeLocal() );
to
int day = TimeDayOfWeek(TimeCurrent() );
Change line 3828 from:
int time = TimeHour( TimeLocal() ) * 60 + TimeMinute( TimeLocal() );
to
int time = TimeHour( TimeCurrent() ) * 60 + TimeMinute( TimeCurrent() );
The default tradingHours input will now work with the correct D1 candle with no further intervention. Remember that the closer your broker's D1 open time is to the recognised start of the trading day (Sydney open) the better. Out by an hour or two probably doesn't really matter. Out by a lot probably means you need a different broker.
Thanks Dave. Nice spot.

Read the effing manual, ok?
Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.
I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.
Anyone here feeling generous? My paypal account is always in the market for a tiny donation. pianodoodler@hotmail.com is the account.

Steve's post above explains why I didn't respond to this.Gertje » Tue Jan 27, 2015 7:59 am wrote:
I assume yes, as I do and have the same pendings.
Also interested to see how the risk-based lotsizing will do after a while. I guess the results in $ will skyrocket.
I think people are misunderstanding what TradeMondays=False means. Post one describes it pretty well. Trades are taken at the open of a new day. We don't want to trade on a Monday open as that would then look at Friday's bar direction + the previous week's direction (the one ending in that same Friday) as well as the previous month.
We DO however want to trade on Tuesday open, looking at the Monday's bar direction, the previous week and month.
So we should have TradeMonday set to False now that Steve has made that tweak - thanks Steve! Those who upgrade to the new version and have TradeMonday set to True will probably want to change it.
Cheers,
Dave.

The newest update has me confused. My brokers have Sunday candles so I still want to leave Trade Monday true right?spotdespot » Tue Jan 27, 2015 1:39 pm wrote:Steve's post above explains why I didn't respond to this.Gertje » Tue Jan 27, 2015 7:59 am wrote:

I would've thought that whatever setting is used to trade Mondays is immaterial if all your pending orders are closed at some point on a Friday?
The only thing it will do on a Monday is to set new pending orders using last weeks' candles?
If however you leave your pending orders open then you will need to change the TradeMondays setting to false to avoid all those opening gaps and wonderful spreads.
Does anyone leave their pending orders open over the weekend?

The setting has nothing to do with the previous week's pending orders - open or closed. Probably best to read the first post thoroughly again as I can't explain it any better.PipPoppy » Tue Jan 27, 2015 9:08 pm wrote:I would've thought that whatever setting is used to trade Mondays is immaterial if all your pending orders are closed at some point on a Friday?
