VPS advice

Hope this is the right forum section. I did not see a 'hardware' oriented section.

I never had a VPS but thinking about getting one.
Reasons:
- I would have to tie up a computer to keep instances of MTCrap running for weekly, daily, 4H chart to keep the correct history of signals.
- I can build a new computer, but with the 'brown outs' here I get reboots (and battery backup only lasts so much).

I see there are 'trading VPS' like Beeks but they are quite expensive if you want some decent CPU power.
But do I even need a low latency trading VPS? ... HGB and PipCruiser are not scalping systems.

So I am now thinking about getting a 'cheap VPS' e.g. 14GB for $15/month at Contabo in Germany to run latency non-sensitive stuff. It is at the other side of the Globe, but in AU VPS is way more expensive.
May be look at Amazon EC2?

Does this make sense, or do I forget something that makes my plan less desirable?

Broadly speaking, you get what you paid for.
If you are using a vps for signal following, scalping EA etc, best to fork out the premium for stability and peace of mind.
It is not worth it to scrimp that few bucks in exchange for the stress of vps downtime, but guess that varies from individual to individual.

If your intent to for something to run a whole load of demo and test out 10-20 EA then Contabo should be good for you.

For real trading I would of course later get an additional Beeks VPS

But I need to do some testing first before playing live.

This VSP would be just for data gathering and running EA Demo's.

If you just want to try using a VPS for a while, you can try AWS (amazon web services). They have a great deal you can use a free VPS for a year.
I'm using it for the last 6 months and I am happy with them. It can run 2 instances of Empty4. Ideal for testing EA's or using it as signal service if your want to keep the HGI running 24/7.

I've been using w2cloud for about 3 months now. It is very good value for money, and flies along compared to the CNS VPS I used to use have. I was with CNS for over a year and they never had any down time - ever. The pricing on w2cloud was too good to pass up though. So far so good, no down time in 3 months.

Don't even bother with cheap VPS's, I've been down that path and all it will do is frustrate you, with the frequent down time, reboots, not being able to connect to it, etc. Can't comment on the free Amazon one.

Australian offerings? Don't bother with them either, I used to have Crucial Paradigm, which is supposed to be the best, and even though it was offered as a trading VPS, they'd do reboots and system maintenance during the week. I chatted them about it and they said that's when most of the customers preferred it?! WTF? They had no understanding of the market they were trying to capture. As well as that it was twice the price of an overseas offering and the servers located in Australia (ie. the wrong place).

The cheap Contabo has been dropped from the list due to the litany of complaints about them. As SpiderX said: You get what you pay for..

Regarding my needs.... what is in your experience needed if you want to run 10 HGB EA's for forward testing?

SpiderX is very right, you get what you pay for.

I have been with Cheap VPS Pte in Netherlands for over 3 months and I have their most basic package at 5.15 GBP/month. I have been running 2 MT4s with 3 EAs which are not speed sensitive. During this time their server has never gone down or restarted. However, the speed is low but it can be much improved by using Windows 2008 instead of Windows 2012. Their response is very fast and my tickets always get replied to within an hour.

I think I am getting a good deal for such small monthly fee.
