Detecting Trend/High Volatility on Renko Charts

Post by Spectre »

Hello

I know that the renko style charts is not a good subject here, but i will give it a try and see what happens.

I suffered a head trauma some time ago and am now trying to learn to code again. i started of easy, simple buy/sell on every bar open.

I slapped on a renko chart for fun (because it was already open for some data gathering), with a SL, TP and a BE.

Here's whats bothering me, this was supposed to be a code test. and the thing made almost 3000 pips in 10 hours, gave some back when i fiddled with the JumpingStop, but still 2300 pips in 3 days, active trade less then 20 hours.

Aaaand thats why i need help, is there a way detect trends/volatility on renko charts so i can intentionally repeat it? dont need directing just need a lot of movement/activity

Started trading at the blue line, turned it off somewhere around the lowest low

Detecting Trend/High Volatility on Renko Charts

You really think you would have hung onto that trade over all those candles and exited where you say you did were you trading live? When each new candle that went against you was a hammer blow against your soul and you watched your profits rapidly disappearing?

And then we get that W shape at the lows about one third into the chart. You really think you would not have been cut to blazes by the chop?

Dream on.

Forget it spectre. Renko charts look great in hindsight. In on-the-ground-reality, they are rubbish. You can take is from me/us-here now, or you can learn it painfully by experience. Your choice. All I can do is try to advise you from experience - coming up to 10 years now. Renko dunt wurk. If it did, we would all be rich and not be contributing here. It doesn't, so we aren't and we still do.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

Yeah i know renko is all so pretty in history. And yes, i probably wouldn't not have traded that way on a live account, but oh well... it was just a lucky coincident. The thing is, i dont actually look at trends and bars before, i treat every bar as a separate unit.

After some thinking, this system is not really a renko based system, hell it is not a system at all. just a "grid" trader, with small stop loss, large take-profit and a jumping stop.

I will tinker some more with it, as i have alot of free time here at sea. Maybe i can make it work

Any ways guys, ignore this... i was just thinking out loud
