I am deeply saddened to report that it looks as though we have been scammed.

I received this pm from a member yesterday:

Steve,
I have been hesitating quite a while before writing this document. It’s about a post in the forum:
“Can you help this little girl”
Probably due to my professional background as an auditor of companies, I felt a little uncomfortable with the style and attitude of the posting of our member ‘crashout’.
But nevertheless, I contributed my share.
Then the message came that all was fine. Period. No further posts of a happy dad singing out that recovery was good etc.
So I mailed dominique.charbonneau@gmail.com and asked for a picture of his daughter, which he posted.
I then ran a Google picture search with the picture (images.google.com) and (https://support.google.com/websearch/an ... 5808?hl=en) with some puzzling results.
I found the exact same picture on a blog: http://emiii4.skyrock.com/8.html and noticed the timestamp below the picture: “#Posted on Tuesday, 20 January 2009 at 5:01 AM”
That is 6 years and 3 months ago…
But I can be wrong, so I asked ‘crashout’ when this picture was taken. Answer:” The picture was taken last year during summer holidays” (see his post on page 8).
Again, I could be wrong, but I don’t know of any child that doesn’t change it looks in 6 years. And I hope I am very wrong, in which case I humbly apologise.

Tommaso did some digging and confirmed that the photo is indeed several years old. crashout has failed to provide an explanation of why he use the photo. Tommaso has spoken with an oncologist who was not impressed by the medical details.

chrashout's account is now locked and he can do nothing to alter any further what is already written here. This thread is locked in case it is needed as evidence by the police. I am not sure whom to report this to, so I will contact the local police station in the morning and see what they say.

Hi Steve , if this is the case than the guy under "crashout" is one low and cheap person using good people and scam them.

First thing for all of you to try to do is recover your funds from the paypal account dominique.charbonneau@gmail.com

Don't know if this will work.

Thats right, didn't think about this. There is a buyer's protection I used once but not sure it works for this type of payment. But it is a good idea to contact Paypal.

crashout can now do nothing here so I am leaving this thread open for suggestions about what to do to recover our money.

I shall be contacting my local police station tomorrow to find out what I have to do to report this scam. It remains to be seen whether anything can be done about it.

My normal smilie seems inappropriate here but I am going to use it anyhow. Just because one guy turns out to be a shit doesn't do anything to tarnish our community here.

I lodged a dispute on Paypal, explained what happened , when I will have their response I will post it here.

If crashout misled us than it is poor. We wanted to genuinely help and he should be ashamed.
