Milanese was kind enough to spend a lot of time on this. The trade manager portion is rather complicated so we are much in his debt in outing this all together.

The EA is based on this method which has been doing very well in manual the last 2 months: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 10#p119242

The Trade Manager portion of the EA is based on ALR 2 about which you can find more information here: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 792#p97774

New to the ALR concept? Please read here: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 682#p94504

EDIT: here is the myfxbook widget: Image

We are in TESTING mode. I am using higher risk presets so we can get a better idea of how each pair performs. To do this I am allowing as many as 20 turns and a risk of up to 40% of account. (see the set files-one is for 40/120 and the other is 50/150) I would never do this on a live account. The most I would consider would be 15 turns and probably not even that. If you are brand new to ALR you will probably misunderstand what I just said. That is not 40% per trade. The more turns you allow the less likely you are to ever have a loss, but the bigger the loss will be when you do hit one. What we want to discover is if there is a sweet spot where we can allow X number of turns so that losses are still extremely rare but still small enough that we can absorb the loss easily because of all the profits we are making in the meantime. If this still is confusing, go to the links above and start reading.

Edit: May 18 new version below with a bug fix and also will work with brokers that have min. lot sizes
Thanks a lot for sharing your idea and EA! If you don't mind, could you please share the source code of the EA? I would like to add the hedge function for the first order, thanks in advance!

Hi,
I've tested this since Monday, but I think, for me, the trendlot of 0.1 is too high as I keep getting to close to marginlevel. If I change the trendlot to 0.03, do I need to change any of the settings for the ALR as well??
I am having fun watching the EA work hard, thanks for sharing this :hi: :hi:

Hi Dewey

I am running Flow Plus ALR EA with no time restriction on the pairs you suggested. I was wondered however if it may perform better if I restrict the times that it trades

I do not have enough data to confirm yet, but it seems that during the lower volatility times (end of US and through the Asian sessions) the ALR kicks in and runs up the Lot #s. Then you hit the European/US session and it goes to TP.

A way to check this is with Myfxbook and look at the Winners/Loser chart. As you can see most of the wins were from 10 - 23 (Global Prime account) which is around the European/US markets. Again I have only run this EA for a few days so very little data.

Maybe if others have more data they could post their Winner/Loser results. I am going to keep this DEMO going to get more data and then start a second demo with restricted trading times to see how it compares.

Cheers Richard

Hi, just share some of my thought.
Right now I use ALR on my manual trading.
I always open trades on Asian sessions. (Follow the H1/H4 bollinger band direction)
Then wait it hit the TP in Europe/US sessions.
It may kick in and out few times after low volatility session.
But basically it will take a smaill profit in later sessions or next day.
And I use 1% profit as the small profit target.
Because of this, I also drop the initial size to 0.01 for 1000USD ,one trade for one day and 1% TP for initial trade.

I more like kick in during low volatility time than kick in when breaking out the previous day candle.
However I only use this theory in short times.
But I like ALR system and will keep testing it.

Regards.

I did a fair amount of testing over the last couple days. This is very slow work as it takes a long time to download all the tick data and then a long time to run a long back test.

Remember we aren't doing back tests to declare the strategy is viable but it certainly tells us if it isn't and can help with settings. I used max turns of 20 and a very high DD limit just to see how many times it would be hit.

I first did a comparison on the GU to see which was better: 40/120 or 50/150. The 50/150 blew half the account whereas the 40/120 was fine. I then did a 40/120 5 year back test. This did OK with a max drawdown of 22.61% and max turns of 17, but each basket did close in profit. Now using .2 lots to start the drawdown would have been around 45% on a 15k account.

Two ways to dial back the risk: Either start with a smaller lot size or limit the number of turns and accept more losses. I plan on doing some tests with the latter. The larger number of turns are very rare so f we can find an acceptable low risk for the few times a basket closes in a loss that might be the best way to go.

I cannot post html files so I can't upload the complete results.
