HGI Trend filter

Indicators needed
240 MA
80 MA
20 MA

When I started trying to find a way to keep HGB from trading, in order to stop it from giving back profits, I came up with this math idea that I would use the ATR of 80 and compare it to an ATR of 14 and somehow it would give me a signal not to trade. My thinking I believe was correct but it was too complicated. I heard Shaun Overton say that he uses an ATR of 80 and I remembered reading of a system here that uses a MA of 240. So for kicks I thought I would put the MA’s on the chart and see if anything jumped out. Here is what I leaned.

The chart below contains the HGI, Bollinger bands (although not needed, I have it there for guidance) the other MA’s listed. These are simple moving averages.

HGI is excellent at clearly showing large trends. What it does not do a good job of is showing us chop (sideways action) and because trends need time to resume or change direction, the HGI can give the wrong reading based on the past candles. My goal was to find a way (filter) to stop trading during chop and then give it time once it appeared the chop was over, to resume trading.

For this example I have the H4 EURUSD. When below all averages and they are NOT flat, continue shorting. When above all the averages and they are NOT flat go long. Continue using the near perfect entries that HGI produces. I believe this produces more wins by eliminating most of the loses.

Been pouring over charts all day and I found one possible exception where the EA could trade above all of the MA's short. Or below all of the MA's long.

This seems significant and a potential money maker. The Trend arrow with Wavy.

in forex trading is often patience asked, as there are times esp. in the summer months, when "do nothing, but do it well" will be the best

agree. Not complaining, just observing. Plus it's so quiet around here, wanted to see if anyone was still around!!

Nice thing about summer in UK is we can get outside for the first time all year...
Which means a Pub beer garden + cold beer + wifi + laptop = :arrow: healthy balance.

Yup. I have had a few good trades this week using HGI. It only takes a few to grow the account. Here's something I have been tracking. One of the reasons I have been tracking trades between the daily and the 4HR.
