Hi Steve, I've got a question which should be applicable to all HGB variants.
Is it possible to have an ATR Breakeven and Jumpstop setting just like PPoS has?
The main reason is that the ATR between the pairs differs a lot, GBPNZD has a three times bigger ATR as AUDNZD for example. It is possible to set a fixed number of pips for each single pair, but the pairs itself are a lot more volatile during the European and North American sessions. This is especially a nuisance on the lower time frames.
I tried looking at the code of PPoS to see if I could copy it over, but I saw the coding was a bit different for that part from what I could tell. I'm no coder, so I got no clue which things should be added or changed.
If it's not possible, I'll deal without it. I just thought it would be a nice addition.

Leaving aside that you do not appear to understand how every breakeven/jumping stop feature works in every ea I have released since the dawn of time, prove manually that what you want makes a difference and I will consider it. I will consign it to the dustbin of requests for code that makes me chase my own tail until then.

Sorry for the confusion, I was talking about the latest releases like HGB, HGB 'n Piproid and Wide Range HGB, they all use the same breakeven/jumping stop feature from what I can tell. From what I can see the same features are used for PPoS, but like I said I'm not a coding expert - not even a novice, so I wouldn't know if there are differences regarding functionality in the code. I haven't seen a difference between the PPoS and HGB BE, JS features while trading though.SteveHopwood » Wed Jul 08, 2015 10:18 pm wrote:JohnnyAmpere » Wed Jul 08, 2015 7:29 pm wrote:Hi Steve, I've got a question which should be applicable to all HGB variants.

In my honest opinion it's a useful addition just like the current ATR TP and SL features which are available in the aforementioned HGB variants right now. If you trade for example on the lower timeframes the ATR for a pair during Asian trading session can even be half the amount of the ATR for a pair during the European session.
Let's say a pair has an ATR of 20 during European session. The EA enters a trade and sets the TP to 2ATR and SL to 1ATR, that's 40 pips TP and 20 pips SL. Let's say you want to move to breakeven halfway, so that's 1ATR or 20 pips. You set the BE settings in the EA to 20 pips. All is fine up till here.
Since it's possible for the EA to trade all day long it also trades during the Asian session. It's a known fact that the ATR tends to be lower during the Asian session. Let's say the pair has an ATR of 10 now. TP will be 2ATR which is 20 pips, SL will be 1ATR which is 10 pips, but the breakeven setting isn't ATR based, it's a fixed amount of 20 pips still. So the TP and BE will have the same number of pips which makes the breakeven setting useless. If you set BE to 10 pips for the whole day it will suffer during European hours, because you will move to breakeven at a quarter of your TP which increases the chances of your BE SL getting hit more often. Same story goes up for the jumping stop.
Without these features in the HGB variants it limits the testing possibilities and the EA itself in my opinion. I don't know how I can make it any more clear, it's just logical thinking and from what I've seen while I was monitoring the EA's. Like I said, it all comes down to logic and I hope my example shows the need for these additional features. If you need anything more let me know.
I hope I didn't just waste 1,5 hour of my time writing this post, English is not my native language so it takes a while to type it all.

Like I said it's mostly for testing, how can I know if it's worth it if I can't test it. I'm not behind my screen 24h a day, I have a social life and not to sleep occasionally as well.AnotherBrian » Wed Jul 08, 2015 10:30 pm wrote:
Sure it's possible. The alternative is to have Steve code it privately for you as a paid service. If the strategy is worth it, then the fee is worth it!
Coding really isn't that hard guys, especially given all the starting points here offered as free EA's. You don't have to start from scratch. It's like copying an essay in high school and making a few changes.
When you need help coding, hit "F1" in the coding program/editor or post on the SHF board and you'll be up and running in no time!
I thought the main goal here is to improve the EA and get the best results possible, so everyone can benefit from it. I wouldn't ask for it to be implemented if it wouldn't be a useful addition to everyone. It's not like I'm asking to combine it with Fibonacci retracements, S & R or something like that to make a complete different system out of it.
I try a lot of EA's that are published here and if I think something could be an improvement I share it. It's up to others to see if they think it's useful or not and if they will implement it. So that standard copy paste you did is nice and all, but your opinion about these possible additions is worth a lot more to me.

Hi Johnny, I can see what you're getting at but ATR isn't calculated like that, I'm not saying it can't be done as we have some great coders on here, it could be done with a time filter, something like if after NY close but before Euro open then ATR = ATR/2 or ATRSLmulti *0.3 but then the EA monitors all trades so any trades taken in the euro session could have it's SL cut after the NY close and it gets taken out and then the trend carries on. I don't think SL and TP based on sessions would work unless you are scalping or the EA gave different sessions their own magic number to manage, you see how complicated this can getJohnnyAmpere » Wed Jul 08, 2015 9:31 pm wrote: Let's say a pair has an ATR of 20 during European session. But it is possible to take the ATR of a smaller amount of candles, let's say the last 4 candles. When trading on the 15M charts you can set the AtrPeriod to 4 and the AtrTimeFrame to 15M. This way the the ATR will be calculated according to the volatility in the past hour and you don't need to get all complicated with the options you suggest.zader » Thu Jul 09, 2015 8:49 am wrote:Hi Johnny, I can see what you're getting at but ATR isn't calculated like that, I'm not saying it can't be done as we have some great coders on here, it could be done with a time filter, something like if after NY close but before Euro open then ATR = ATR/2 or ATRSLmulti *0.3 but then the EA monitors all trades so any trades taken in the euro session could have it's SL cut after the NY close and it gets taken out and then the trend carries on. why don't you use APTM --click--> http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... =21&t=3482 in addition as this TM has ATR options like you want, if I understood you right..JohnnyAmpere » Thu Jul 09, 2015 7:37 am wrote:

That will do the trick as well. I was looking at the MPTM, but it didn't have those options, but this one has.milanese » Thu Jul 09, 2015 11:13 am wrote:why don't you use APTM --click--> http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... =21&t=3482 in addition as this TM has ATR options like you want, if I understood you right..JohnnyAmpere » Thu Jul 09, 2015 7:37 am wrote:

Thanks Tomasso, if I manage to get good testing results I'll share it here.
Kind regards,

V 1a is in post 1. I received this pm from Jerry a few minutes ago:

I had to work out what WrbCandlesLookBack does, because my post 1 explanation was as clear as mud. I saw a coding error when I examined it, that was being hidden by the accidental WrbCandlesLookBack default of 4. It should indeed be 2 if we want the wide range body candle to be the third candle in the sequence. From my updated post 1:jerrydeng wrote:Hi, steve, I have a puzzled question. In WRB EA, the default WrbCandlesLookBack=4, but the demo picture in the post should be WrbCandlesLookBack=2? Please correct it, if I'm wrong.
Cheers,
Jerry
Thanks Jerry. Nice spot.[*]WrbCandlesLookBack: this allows you choice over the number of preceding candles that have to be smaller than the Wide Range Body candle. The default of 2 means that WRB ea will get the height of the body of the previous candle (shift[1]), then examine the two candles before that (shift[2] and shift[3]) to cancel the wide range body candle if either of them have a bigger body.[/list]
