Greece, a reminder to noobs: don't assume that the impending Greek financial catastrophe will cause the Euro to plummet. We often find that the Big Boys have factored something like this into their calculations weeks ago and behaved accordingly They might not have gazillions of Euros that they suddenly need to dump on the market – they may have been quietly dumping them for weeks.
Forex is a strange beast. The Yen soared after the earthquake disaster a few years ago. The Japanease Central Bank has been trying to dampen down its value ever since.
Don't bet your house on the Euro tumbling this week. It might, but it equally well might not. Trade it with caution.
So, re the Greek referendum, thinking that whatever they decide will make anything other than a temporary difference in the markets is probably barking at the wrong moon. One way or another, Greek debt to the international debt owners is going to be written off unless said DO's are going to raise a vast army, invade Greece and sack it for everything it has. That would cause some turbulence in the markets.
This debt writing off can happen with Greece a member of the EU and retaining the Euro. It can happen with Greece a member of the EU and launching its own currency. It can happen with Greece leaving the EU and launching its own currency.
The idea that the Big Boys in the markets have not already positioned themselves for all of these eventualities is laughable.
Try not to get on the wrong side of them, ok?
