My crim had about a 20min outage Monday evening. I discovered this when I came into the office Tuesday morning and Empty4 was STILL disconnected.
I asked my crim why it didn't reconnect, and they said "I think Empty4 will attempt to reconnect for a certain amount of time and then stop (ex 5 minutes)".
!!
Does anybody have any better insight into this? That would be pretty bad if a 10min outage would kill your connection until you manually restarted it! A VPS wouldn't help a situation like this, where it was a problem on the broker end...

It happened to me 1 or 2 times even with a VPS...
Didn't try for the moment, but the ReConnect EA may correct this issue...

Unfortunately, this is one more of Empty4's charms.
I use a few tools to help with these issues. MT4i (http://www.mt4i.com) has a couple of great (and free) utilities to help with this type of situation.
Auto-Restart: http://www.mt4i.com/appstore/app.aspx?i ... popularity
Run this on the same system where you are running your trading Empty4. It watches for connection issues and restarts Empty4 given the criteria you select (e.g. unable to connect to the broker for XX mins...) This *usually* clears up any connection issues. Just make sure your EAs gracefully handle the restarts.
Account Monitor: http://www.mt4i.com/appstore/app.aspx?i ... popularity
Run this on a different system than your trading system. It monitors for updates to MT4i (assuming that you are publishing your stats to MT4i with their publishing EA or using your Empty4 investor access). This can send you an email or SMS if your account isn't updated every XX mins, which is indicative of a Empty4 connection error.
Using these utilities, it usually covers any Empty4 disconnections or issues. It normally fixes itself with a restart of Empty4 or at a minimum, it lets you know there is an issue so you can investigate.
If you haven't already looked into MT4i, take some time to look into their utilities and data/stats capabilities. They are free and very useful.
