getting an ea to run

i am writing a new ea but it will not attach to a chart! i have both the compiled source code and the exe files in the proper directory. the navigator shows the program in its list, but when i pull it onto the chart, it does not appear in the upper-right corner of the chart. i haven't seen that before, and do not know why its not starting. can someone suggest what might be wrong and how to fix it?

Tell me what you see in the "Experts-tab" ... that will give me some clues. You can also attach the .mq4 file to your post, that will give me even more information.

thanks for looking. i don't know what/where an 'expert tab' is, in the navigator list showing on the chart are 5 demo programs supplied by fxcm plus my new ea 'matrend'. i'd be pleased to send a a copy of the source, but i see no way on the blog to add it, nor do i know your email address. the prog is just written and compiled w/o syntax errors (no debugging yet). it's trying to find a forming abcd pattern and set a target for cd from the ab leg fibonacci extension. i'm in phx, where are you? if you'd like to try skype, i think it's jjasper7

The Experts-tab is one of the tabs on the Terminal panel (View -> Terminal, or Cntr-T). It displays (error) information about the EAs, Indicators and scripts loaded on the chart.

You can attach .mq4 files to your posts, by clicking the "Upload attachment" -tab (which is displayed below the post entry form), selecting "Browse..." to browse and select your .mq4 file, and clicking "Add the file". These are all very basic skills you should be acquainted with.

I don't do Skype.

thanks for the help. the 'expert'tab says:
'''matrend' is not an expert and cannot be executed. so that defines what is wrong. what does a program need to qualify as an ea, and where is that defined?
the (faulty) mql source is included, and i had not seen the options at the bottom of this page. i hope it gets the right copy. i guess i should rename the older.

#property indicator_chart_window that is why your code is not qualified as EA... this line is used for incicators. And taking a fast look your code seems to be an indicator and no EA..
You should take at exp take a look to http://book.mql4.com/ for some basiscs about mql programming..

i removed the ''property ivdicator chart window',and the expert tab still says it is not an ea. i have not found the instructions for what an ea or indi needs (how the compiler distinguishes which). please give me another clue.

your code is an indicator, you should read the link I gave you in my previous post, as you have no idea about simply basics of mql4..
This topic as now locked, as there is no more to explain or talk about, read the basics , learn, the basics, without doing that you will never have an idea about what is a script, EA or indicator..
