Holy Graily Bob 'n Grid

EA's inspired by nanningbob's work here, especially those based on his 240 Moving Average trend detection filter.

Now I have finally got the damn thing working properly again, I have time to respond to this. It has been a hard day. :arrrg: :arrrg: :arrrg: Jeremy wasn't too pleased with me - a touch on the irritated side by the number of IP addresses he was having to unblock. I don't remember exactly what his comment was, and it was mild, but it was his equivalent of a full-blown SH dimwit evisceration.

Never mind. The point of this post is: I will add a single moving average filter tomorrow.

Awsome!!! Busy busy day for your Steve!

Well, I'm happy to report that one of my demo crawled out of $300 DD and I closed it manually for $55 profit. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Thanks Steve, much appreciated - will save me time doing that myself every time a new release comes out and modifying Bob's MA to work as a single MA :-)

Never mind. The point of this post is: I will add a single moving average filter tomorrow.

Good morning all...

Last night I decided to use the Holy Graily Bob %27n Grid v2n PQL 34EMA H4 TF, compliments of PeterUK, but I changed it to a 15min TF, with the ATR set at 30mins, just to see what would happen, and I was quite pleased.

Gold was the clear winner with this setup. Unfortunately, with the other pairs there was considerable DD, but as Pete says, if you keep it small eg SizeOfDollop=2000 for a $2000 demo = 0.01 per $2000, the DD will balance over time.

But I got to thinking that I will just focus on Gold only and see how it pans out over a week.
So I have begun a test starting today, will post outcome regularly.

Thanks again to Steve, Cyber and PeterUK for this combo

Cheers
Tony

Thanks Steve, for the hard work to solve this. and a collective apology to Jeremy from all of us. I think we all have to shoulder the responsibility for this one. So, sorry for the extra work, Jeremy and the nice fellows at GP..

Good news Tony,

Note: when using $2000 for SizeOfDollop (or any other amount), that's $2000 in USD when using a USD trading account... so 0.01Lot per pip = USD$0.10.

If using an account other than USD say AUD, which is what I'm using at the moment (but will sometime convert to USD), you should convert USD$2000 to AUD using a rough conversion rate of in this case 1.3 to get AUD$2600, because for an AUD$ trading account 0.01Lot per pip = about AUD$0.13.

Another point is that trading the bot using a GBP£ account with sizeofdollop=2000 will be different to trading the bot using a AUD$ account with sizeofdollop=2000, because the DD in a AUD account will be 1.87xDD in a GBP account, where 1.87 is the conversion rate for GBPAUD as of 23/03/2016 2300GMT... :-)

So in my settings I use sizeofdollop=2500 because of my live AUD account, depending on how my 34EMA test goes I may increase it slightly to become more consersative and reduce the risk of high DD, and at the same time be consistant in generating avg pips or greater/day.

When I first started out trading I thought that having an AUD will give me a bigger number to play with but USD is the common denominator... and I got my maths wrong when I saw a big DD!

Thanks Pete for the clarification! I also use AUD, but hadn't thought about USD or GBP for that matter.
I did forget to mention that my set file is at a higher risk and would no way risk that on a live account...

As a side note; I have probably said this a few times now, but I truly appreciate the support and teamwork here at SHF, there is truly no other forum that provides such opportunity for the retail trader, so thanks...

Hi Steve,

Another query which may relate to the problem below... which I did try implementing on the old code...

Does 'StopTrading'=True, close a grid of pending orders when there is not active trade?

I had a grid of 10 pending trades (5 buys stop, 5 sell stops), no trades were triggered yet. I then set the EA to 'StopTrading'=True, but the grid doesn't clear for me to change EA. When I close a few trades manually, maybe all buy stops or some sell stops and then some starts clearing automatically... not sure whether that's usual behaviour...

When I restarted Empty4 and EA, it then cleared I think... when 'StopTrading' is set during a trading session, should it Trigger code at line 4957?

Thanks.

This is a teensy change whose need only becomes clear if you manually close your market trades and the bot fails to delete the outstanding stop/limit orders.

Line 4957
if (PendingTradesTotal <= GridSize)

needs to be:
if (PendingTradesTotal < (GridSize * 2) )

because a full grid will consist of GridSize * 2 trades - default 10. If there are less than 10 stop/limit orders and no market order, then a market order has closed/been closed, trading is over for the time being and the pending trades are no longer required.

Hi,

Discovered something strang happening but don't really know how to resolve unless I reboot Empty4 on VPS...

Problem...
1. no.s of Pending and active orders allowed limit reached...
2. I try to disable bot to stop trading...
3. notification box still pops up, but this time with message see in screenshot...
4. Opened up Terminal > Expert and see with message as seen in screenshot...

I assume pending order was sent, it got refused and bot still thinks it exists after sending the pending order... maybe the bot needs to check whether the pending order has been filled before storing it into it's memory for managing that trader?
pendinglimit-botoff.jpg
Some insights I discovered:
1. Trading the lower timeframes increases the chance of pending trades being triggered if conditions are met by HGI and relevant filters...
2. This increases the chance of more pending orders being sent
4. This increases the chance of your pending and active orders limit set by your broker...
5. thus you'll reach a point where orders are sent buy your bots, doesn't get filled, and notification box keeps popping up...

probable solution(s) maybe...
1. As you trade lower TF you may need to trade fewer currency pairs or etc...
2. or have a filter to check how many currencies are actively trading and be able to set a limit on it: say you have 4 active currencies being trading, you set your limit to 5, and HGI triggers two more currencies, only the first of the two gets triggered 4+1=5 and the other doesn't, this will then give enough breathing room for bot to trigger pending trade orders when it needs too...

Also you use more margin as sell/buy orders get triggered, with some brokers you use halve the margin required when evenly hedged (balanced sell and buy active orders compared to unhedge, it use to be zero for me but they changed policy)... also risk of DD is much higher when trading more currencies, thus eating up your available equity - this could then affect your pending orders due to lack of available margin... options you have is to use lower lot sizes, trade fewer currencies and/or increase the leverage of your account to someone like 400:1 (within risk your risk tolerance) but that may come with higher risk of loss and you probably pay a bit more in swap because you are relatively borrowing more if trades are left overnight...

I find that I could probably trade at Higher TF (i.e. H4+) with more currency pairs as the HGBnB bot with 34EMA (or any other trend direction filter) trades more conservatively and doesn't trigger off a lot of pending orders... but the return on pips are probably lower than you would get at at lower TF, unless maybe I start tweaking Money Management (MM) variables... but the returns in pips are still consistant more or less consistant at this stage, so I could probably increase lot size instead of lowering TF buy reducing sizeofdollop per 0.01lot.

In Summary: IT''s ALL A BALANCING ACT! Trade to trade another day... and don't take unnecessary risk... :-)
