Thanks for taking the trouble to do this. I have bookmarked your post so I can return to it later and give it some thought. I would not even bother to have bad dreams these days about using an EA created by someone who is not one of the expert coders here and so would code an ea myself.Bruster400 » Wed Mar 30, 2016 10:45 am wrote:

I've just fired up this bot again having had to shut down over the long weekend. I've updated to the latest version and I'm up to speed on the new features. The majority of my trades to date have closed out because of a semaphore or hedged profit (rather than an opposite signal) so I'm beginning to think that the actual entry point is not that important. I also wanted to try out the new buttons, so I hit the "send full grid" button. Which is duly did - but then it deleted it as well! I tried the separate sells and buys buttons but they had the same experience - all deleted.
I'm obviously missing something here but can't find it. Can I just check my understanding - can you only send grids when you have an active, in market trade?

You can cheat and open a manual order first....

It is early days but I suspect that DD is something we have to live with. We will need patience as cycles sometimes take a while to complete. Those occasional straight up or down runs are lovely when the occur; we just cannot expect them every day.PeterUK » Wed Mar 30, 2016 10:57 am wrote:Greetings friends,
I'm having good results with HGB 'n Grid...
You have to have balls of steel... but also treat DD as part of your mini investment within your equity, and whatever you generate after that grows your account... overall the gains in your equity amount will be higher than your DD... to minimise you DD I initially to 0.01 or 0.02 lot which I set the sizeofwallop to a higher number... as my live account is higher than 1000...
Being in the red or DD, and how you deal with it in the long term is a psychological feeling of losing... and the sense of urge of taking over the EA will be tough to handle...
But as Steve says, only trade what you are willing/afford to lose if all things fail, and if you can't afford to lose/blow that account, it will be tough, you will try to take over, you will be discouraged... even now my DD is at -14% but that DD is covered by my equity gain...
Also when you make some decent amount, take some out, and it'll reinforce it in your mind that it's real...
Steve: an idea has cropped to mind, as Equity gained is already higher than DD would it be possible to set an automatic shut down of all the EA's on chart when to protect the equity/balance if there is a sudden change in market conditions... say if DD causes the Equity/balance to go below 70%, shut down all EA's and when we come back and assess the situation... having capital left to trade another day is a good thing...
If not, don't worry... happy trading...
Regards,
Peter
I just checked my trades throughout March. Altogether the balance increased by $1018. This would have been nearly $1600 had I not experimented with GW on GJ, and manually closed a GJ basket early on.
Current DD is c. $400, so the accrued profit is 2.5 times this. I will be a happy bunny if I can maintain that ratio.
I am not going to do anything about your idea, Peter. Let's just watch and see what happens.

No worries, I'm a happy bunny also, also stopped tinkering too much and using 1h TF, a balance between 15min and 4hr...

A couple of sharp-eyed bloop-hunters have emailed me today about the BuyCloseSignal and its counterpart. These are redundant variables that will be removed from the next release. Ignore them.

Just notice a possible conflict between Bob's MA and SMA, one says trend is up, the other say's is down... I'm using 1H TF, the same occurs with other TF...
Some times SMA aligns with Bob's Double MA in giving the trend direction, and some times the SMA is inverted...
I've looked at the code again, can't see any problems, maybe the SMA is Trend not being updated... both seems to be using the same variable type and etc.... SMA should work similar to Bob's MA with 1 MA less...
For the time being I've gone back to using modified Bob's MA for the 34EMA in live trading...
Any ideas Steve?
Thanks,
Peter

It all comes down to one innocent letter. Line 2399
bFMaVal = GetMa(Symbol(), SingleMaTimeFrame, sMaPeriod, 0, sMaMethod, sMaAppliedPrice, 0);
should be:
sFMaVal = GetMa(Symbol(), SingleMaTimeFrame, sMaPeriod, 0, sMaMethod, sMaAppliedPrice, 0);
b = Bob.
s = Single.
sFmaVal is never changed from 0, so the market is always above it, so the single MA trend is always up.
It is one of my famous copy/paste/fail-to-edit bloops.
Not going to do anything about it tonight - going to bed. I will sort it out in the morning. Those of you who know how can already make the change for yourself - find the appropriate line if you are using the experimental version.
