Gridtrading from daily open

Post by r1ch4rd »

I've had 5 tp's hit today and I'm now flat for the day.
EN didn't throw out a grid for some reason.
I'm leaving this totally hands free from now on to see what it produces.
TP @ £10
I have had a couple of pairs in DD overnight, but these suckers run when they break the range.

Promising results so far. :yahoo:

It's all within GW.

Setfile attached.

Gertje,

Just checking something. I've noticed in this setfile that you have GlobalProfitTargetPips=100 and HedgeProfitPips=100. Does this do the close for you from within GW or are you using a separate trade manager to do this?

Thanks, Bruster

Question is how manage when you get 5/6/7 etc. order filled in the "wrong" direction..?
Or how to prevent that situation?
Now i'm 6s/9l GA and 7s/10l on GN, wrong timing maybe but it doesn't matter... can happen even if i have open at DO.

Hi Bruster,

These settings make GW close all trades when 100pips are reached, hedged or single direction.
No additional trademanager needed.

That's what demo-trading is for, to find out.

Indeed it CAN happen when opening at DO, but very unlikely. Price have to move up and down a lot, making higher highs and lower lows all the time in order to build a position like that.

My suggestion would be to leave it in place, tomorrow might bring the solution.
DD must be huge though.

Just thinking (with classic hindsight) that GJ might not be the best pair to trade at minute. Have a look at the monthly and weekly charts and you will see we are currently at a very strong S/R price point. Price doesn't often go past 154 without some ranging or a reversal.

Hi Gertje,

Thanks for your detailed response. I’ve gone over your answer and I just want to make sure I understand the EA’s logic correctly.

I drafted up your GJ scenario in excel to ensure I fully understand what the EA was doing. Here I’ve made the assumption that price was linear (ie: it went straight up, took out the 2 buy stops then headed straight back down to take out the sell stops and close for profit. The fact is, it took out 1 sell stop, then up towards the 2 buy stops then headed back down). Can you please confirm this?

A couple of things I noticed with the EA:

1) It doesn’t open any trades at the DO, it sets pending’s 25 pips (or whatever you set it at) above or below the DO. The spacing between pending is 20 pips (or again, what ever distance you set it at). You mentioned you start counting pips at the DO. How can you when there are no trades at the DO? I’m only counting pips from the open trades.
2) The orange BE line in your chart. Can you share the indicator that provides this?

So to summarise, this isn’t really the typical martingale/grid stuff you usually see at FF. It’s a clever way of stacking trades when the market moves in your favour. And if it doesn't move in your favour, you hedge and keep on stacking trades until you get your 100 pips profit.

My other question is, what happens if the market is stuck in a wide range? For example, the market heads up taking out 2 buys stops, then heads down and takes out 4 sell stops, then back up again for an additional 4 buys stops, then back down again for another 6 buy stops…. Etc. You could in effect be stuck in a massive hedge! Food for thought …. Which I’m sure others have maybe mentioned. How do you manage a scenario like this?

I’II continue to play with this interesting toy. :yahoo:

Cheers

Paul
Stop NOW.

Gertje has posited a trading system. There is an EA that is vaguely adaptable to trading it.

That is all the EA does, but you appear to be too stupid to notice this.

One more idiotic post from you earns you a long-term visit to the sin bin. You can do nothing from it and there is no escape from it.

Shut up. Do some reading. Do some learning.
Read the effing manual, ok?

Gertje and Steve, thanks guys for this. Moved here after Steve declared Rinse and Repeat a dead duck. Good job Steve knows first aid, dead duck is now alive and kicking again. :cheer:

Have been playing with the GW EA and so far two closed trades on EURAUD and GBPUSD. DD on the other pairs nothing to be concerned about.

Now playing with the less volatile pairs (anything with an ATR of less than 100) with grids set at one tenth of 10 period ATR and TP set at half the ATR, have also increased the lot sizing to try and achieve somewhere in the region of £100 per successful trade.

Will report back when I get a few results in.

Today update: GJ closed for 100 pips
GA 6 buy, 12 sell -250 floating (0,03/trade)
GN 7 buy, 13 sell -270 floating.

If I have open new grid at DO at GA and GN are near to close, it's not a possibility open new grid to help to close old grid?

Hi Gerte and Steve,

Compliments on this brainwave, it seems to have real merit. The close after 100 pips function doesn't work for me (I think I know why and its specific to me) but as a consequence I woke up to to the last two days worth of grids having made me a 1500 pips (yes I mean pips not points).

I think I will put it on a penny live account next week once I have solved the close thing for myself.
