I was wondering what recovery controls anyone is finding useful in reducing DD, like what are the settings, or under what circumstances are they manually introduced etc, or is it mostly ootb.

Any ideas emerging?
I am currently testing HGBnG on the lower timeframes to run alongside RnR on one pair only with matching gridsize so that HGBnG is building a position on breakouts to counterbalance the drawdown and margin that RnR is creating. Trade report below starting yesterday .. have just added Rene's Margin Plot so will let this run and report back once I have some conclusions :youknow:

I'm running a Side by Side test with CSSO on and off for 4 weeks now, DD with CSSO of is half of the DD with CSSO on.

Profit is also 50% higher using the CSSO off.

When testing for 4 or 6 trades before offsetting starts, I also tried a new pair; EURNZD.
Running with a dollup of 0.01/ 2.000 it generates 1% a day with minimal DD.
This is with the setting of 4 trades before offsetting. The version with 6 trades is doing far less regarding both profit and DD.

Below the TradeChart for the pair with 4 trades/ offsetting.
EURNZDH1.png
It's still early day's, and I'll keep testing this pair.
It differs from the usuall suspect in the way that it has big swings every day, closing the DD on the way back instead of leaving a trail of open orders in the opposite direction.

Nice one. I have changed my mind about the pairs to trade wanting small volatility. Time and again I see the psychotic GJ leave umpteen trades behind then clear them out in minutes. Big swings is what we need.

On a slightly different matter, I am about to post V 1j. Updating post 1 will take a few minutes, so watch this space.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

V 1j is in post 1. Please read "EDIT: 25/5/16" for details.

Bloop-spotters, the order of events is:
Lines:
23+ defines some HGI constants.
35 defines the comment to send with the defensive hedge trade.
272+ is the inputs and variables definition block.
594 is the idiot check.
1649 in CountOpenTrades() initialises the variables and they are filled during the function.
3102 sees the return of ReadIndicatorValues() to read HGI.
3242 removes the ea if the user has failed the idiot check.
3378 calls ReadIndicatorValues() to read HGI.
3381+ calls the functions that look to place the hedge and delete it. Our old friend LookForTradeClosure() is back at line 1118. DoWeNeedDefensiveHedge() is at line 3201.

Best not to put this on our live accounts just yet.

I couldn't agree more.
I trade the GBPJPY (and EURAUD) on my live account since 16-5 market opening.
In the past 8 trading day's, GBPJPY made me $325,60 using 0,01 lots...... :yahoo:
Max DD has been $495-ish, so I suggest to be a little more conservative than 0.01/ 2.000 equity or set a higher partialSL than the OOTB 20%.....

EDIT: during the same TF, EURAUD made $304,96 with 0,03 lots.
