Nice, thanks for your help. I've made these changes and added to post 1tomele » Sun Jul 10, 2016 10:55 am wrote:Hi,
we have those parameters already in line 208 and 209:
You could post two different EAs accordingly.Code: Select all
bool TradeLong=true; bool TradeShort=true;
EDIT: Or even better, make them extern and include the values in the settings files.
Happy pippin, Thomas

I just spotted the lot size was only 0.01 in my HGBnG sets. I have now corrected post 1. Those who have already downloaded will need to increase to 0.02.
So just to clarify one RnR chart at 0.01 and two HGBnG chart at 0.02 (one buy only plus one sell only)

Here's a nice example of how this combo works together to hedge during a move.
Following a fairly sharp 180pip move up on GBPJPY this morning I have an imbalance of 6 positions with RnR at 0.01 and I have 3 Long HGBnG orders filled at 0.02. Right now the account is perfectly hedged.
If price continues to rise quickly I have no worries because the gains on HGBnG will balance any further drawdown on RnR and if price retraces then RnR will bank some decent gains while HGBnG fills a few limit orders which it will use to offset the losing stop orders.
Happy Mondays!

Wow.. what a week to test this combination strategy! The perfect leaky toilet scenario on GBPJPY with 1000pips straight up in two days.
I can say that this HGBnG/RnR combo is not yet watertight. I was testing this on a live cent account this week and had to deposit more funds yesterday to keep it going. Not a drama when it's £50 but if it was £5,000 that would have been another matter.
Essentially today will be make or break. If we have a decent retrace I will bank a gazillion pips. If price breaks higher I will manually hedge the whole position and pull the plug on this test until I can unwind the hedge.
Let's see how this plays out and can then discuss this further at the end of this week. For now I am removing my recommendation of 0.01 per 5000 in post 1.

Ok so I want to address a problem that became apparent for me this week using HGBnG the way I have suggested with this strategy:
A losing sequence of trades will open more and more grids against the trend until it has a chance to close them out through offsetting (assuming that opportunity comes which it didn't for me this week).
A winning sequence of trades close out at the earliest opportunity of either a range wavy, opposite signal or offsetting a previous loser.
This is fine most of the time.. and last week a 300pip daily range was handled with ease. Not so this week.. I got snagged with probably the last (ever) HGI down arrow before price shot up at the start of the week and this losing grid got bigger, and Bigger, and BIGGER.
After adding funds yesterday to double my (cent) account to continue testing, and the subsequent break higher this morning my emergency hedge kicked in with 77% (of 12k) draw down and I now have a 2 Lot hedge to unwind .. time to dust off those manual trading skills I think I hope I have.
There must be a solution to this and although this week on GBPJPY is a long way from "normal" trading conditions if a solution is found this combination will hold it's head high. I realize that the solution will involve downgrading potential profits from HGBnG which was meant to play a supporting act in this combination anyway but was almost becoming the star. I just hadn't taken into account how it would respond when unable to close losers through offsetting so I am glad this week is the week it was. Better to find out on demo or cent and all that.
The potential profits are staggering and a couple of PM's have suggested a few peeps have been luckier than I with the flow of positions generated.
I would be interested in any Global Prime results this week If anyone can post a trade report testing what I posted?
More soon.....
