Can't tell....price is sitting @ 40 lwma right now. The price cross on the Baluda has already happened so I would be very careful entering a position.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is for the Daily signal, yesterday was changed back to RED and candle closed, so I believe it is SELL today

I was discussing D1. If you were using 5SMA as your guide, you would be leaning toward a sell, but again I would tread carefully just the same.

I am using the guidelines mentioned by Steve Hopwood in this previous post -

Early days, but I am loving the D1:
  • All the usual FX pairs.
  • Check each one at the open of the new candle at 22.00 London time. Takes 5 minutes.
  • Close losers (well, one loser so far) on a confirmed re-cross.
  • Take a new trade following a confirmed cross.
All I have to do is look at the bar colours. The previous bar having changed = a trade open or trade closure.

Definitely the simplest trading method yet devised Bob.

Has anyone else noticed there is often a fairly consistent retracement pattern following a CSS cross, It is most obvious on H4, D1 and W1 but occurs on all timeframes.

It doesn't happen on every cross .. perhaps less than 50% but waiting for this retrace before entry can offer much lower risk, drawdown and more winning trades.

Here a few screenshots looking at D1 past few days... I have put a horizonal line/arrow to mark the area/candle where there were opportunities to jump in after a retrace. Where this pattern occurs price retraces towards the high/low of the actual candle where the CSS cross happens. Since we need to wait for that candle to close for a valid signal, waiting for a retrace can usually offer at least 1 ATR price advantage, sometimes more.

15.9.16 edit .. it is actually the middle of the candle where CSS cross that price retraces to so it is about 1/2 ATR price advantage not 1 as a I said above.

Yeah, I have noticed that the candle before the cross is often a decent reversal candle (e.g. engulfing) and the cross happens on a follow-through candle. So that is 2 decent reversal candles in a row. Unless there is a ton of continuation momentum for some reason (e.g. news) then you get the pullback that you are noticing. I am on a 30M TF and see it happening (not all the time). Good example on the NZDJPY 30M as we speak.

After a bunch of experimentation, I was able to do a bunch of dedicated forward testing today on a live account (with tiny lots) for the first time. Was happy with the results.

10 trades, 8 wins, 2 losses. Net pips = 182. RR was 1:1 mainly, so nothing to write home about.

I am trading on 30min charts using a H1 CSS, plus a couple of MA filters. I will continue forward testing this week and next. If the results hold up, then I will share what I am doing in more detail. I am also getting one of my filters upgraded to suit this strategy a bit better and will share that when its available, regardless of the results.

A couple of observations I can make about the SuperCSS, based on my initial experience. I started out using H4 Super CSS on a 30M chart. I found that having 8 periods (8x30M = 4H) was a bit much, so I dropped the SuperCSS back to H1 or 2x30M periods. I get the benefit of the smoother SuperCSS, plus not as many weak signals due to the SuperCSS still doing its calculation. I have also played around with the threshold value quite a bit, as another way to limit weak signals during the calculation period, especially cross overs at the half-hour mark. At the moment I have settled on a 1.0 threshold value (no magical reason for 1.0) and only take trades if the cross is immediately over 1.0. This weeds out signals where the strength of the currency move at the cross isn't great.

Will keep you updated.

Please keep us posted. I am interested in what times and pairs you are trading too
