Hi Steve

Regarding the latest post 1 code, I do not use HGI so I do not use HgiCloseOnYellowRangeWave. It is commented out from my code. This is just my observation.

Currently the code is

         ClosePosition = true;

I believe the code should be

   if (HgiCloseOnYellowRangeWave && HgiTrendTimeFrameStatus == Waverange)
      if (!HgiOnlyCloseProfitablePositions || CashUpl > 0)
         ClosePosition = true;

Otherwise, it seem as though anytime the position have a tiny profit (>0) it would be closed regardless of whether there is a waverange. Anyway I didn't observe the behaviour in my code, as I am not using HGI and have it commented out.

DIYers, it is a simple fix. Do a search for 'if (HgiCloseOnYellowRangeWave)' - this will take you to the correct code snippet. Copy this over the top of the existing code:

Yes we all know that the DD can be quite substantial but for the last 2 weeks I've let the EA do what it does best hedge, offset and trade the trend. Today after big moves in multiple of my traded underlyings/symbols most closed all open positions in profit

This might not make a lot of sense in isolation. I posted it in response to a member who has since asked me to remove his post. It reflects a sentiment I feel about our totally fantastic forum.

As an aside, it is worthwhile considering how far we have come in recent years.

People were still trading the cross of a slow moving average by a faster one when I started my coding career. Ye Gods alive, dead and all points in between; how far wide of the real moon were we all barking at? EA's (and I have never worked out why auto traders are called Expert Advisors - I code the damn thingies and know how thick they are) could blow accounts by sending hundreds of trades within seconds because we did not understand just how crap Empty4 is.

Fast forward a decade and we have astonishing thingies. Mountains of safety-net code has been provided by genius programmers whose ability and knowledge make me look the sap that I really am. Read the acknowledgements in my code folks; little of it is down to me.

I provide the occasional snap of inspiration - Holy Graily Bob 'n Dotty 'n Peaky is in preparation at the mo for example. He can already spot a definition of W formations and I am working on the M. (Hehe. I will bet anybody here a tenner that some genius will step forward to improve the code about 20 seconds after I release it. )

Then I lose sight of the detail and someone usually steps forward to pick up the pieces. Here it is Thomas. Without him, we would still be our heads over baskets closing seemingly at random.

The result of all of this is code that is about as watertight as it is possible to be, but also unbelievably complicated. Make a change here and LUC could have his buddies around for the bender of the millennium within nanoseconds because the coder did not realise that there was a need to change the code there. And there and there and there.................

That is why I am not mucking around with anything that most people are not interested in. You guys probably realise from my output this week, that I have not been teaching much - half-term. Next school hols, I shall probably remove stacking and that daft chandelier exit; nobody seems to use either of them.

So for now, if you cannot make something work properly then try something different.

If you are referring to "stackbycandledirection" associated with "Immediate Market Orders" then I would kindly request ask that this functionality remain. I use it in a profitable version of the EA that I run. I actually use it in an older version of the EA because I know it works there.

On a slightly different tack.

I have been trading HGB&D live for 3 months now on 3 USD pairs and 1 JPY pair with some good results (note: I use trade stacking vs grid trading). I was up 7% in Dec (no losing days), 20% in Jan (3 losing days), but down 3% for Feb (7 losing days) thus far.

In trying to understand the under-performance of HGB&D in February, I am struck by the low volatility and tight trading range of the USD index, basically since Trump's Inauguration.

Have others encountered the same trading results, or is it just my settings?

For those of you that are much more enlightened as to the mechanics of HGB&D than I am, to what degree does volatility play into the success of the EA results? If volatility is important then is there a way to determine optimal levels of volatility, above which the EA kills it, as per Dec and Jan.

stackbycandledirection remains because you have asked for it to. Any takers for the chandelier exit? Leaving existing stuff in place does no harm.
