Hello,
First of all i would like to thank for everyone who participated in the evolution of CurrencySlopeStrength. It is a must have indicator for everybody who trades forex. Thanks for Baluda for the concept, Steve who runs this site and a huge high-five for Gary who helped me out when I needed to (and I needed
However i am studying RSI for years and I made some changes for myself on the CSS 1.0.0 (as far as I saw, the original is based on moving averages and atr)to calculate the slope from RSIs.
- Disclaimer: TF is 4H. Everything is set to this timeframe, however it works on other TFs as well. There can be other setups and you can play with it, I use this because at this time I found the best one. The Currencies’ behaviour differs from each other and you should calculate on that. Like CHF is less volatile than EUR, so its movements has less swings , or JPY makes ZIGZAGs lately. I just want to say that it is not a holy grail it works best on swinging currencies. There are basic patterns that are the essence of the bands and if you study them you will find many good entry points
An other possible way of using of the indi is to watch for trendline breaks. The BBs are mostly in sync with the trendlines, but the trendlines are stronger signals for a reverse or breakout.
Watch for second (sometimes third) peaks/troughs especially if they cannot reach the highs/lows as the first one. Usually it is a signal of the trend's end. Also formations, such as head-and-shoulders (there are 2 of them on my sample pic). H&S is one of the most common formation right after double tops/bottoms.
It is a shady area, but the drawed levels where the RSI has turned can forecast the endpoint of the next trend. I believe it is somehow connected with the Fibonacci retracements on the price charts, but I havent found any strict rules to that, further investigation is required.
What is in the code?
1.8 version
- I've made a small info panel to see all the major characteristics of the currencies.
TF: it is the CSS_RSI of the current TF. Nothing special
MA: if the MA is increasing, then green up arrow. if decreasing, red down arrow
RSI and BB: If the RSI is over the higher BB line, then you get 2 green up arrows. If it is between MA and higher BB, then it shows one lightgreen up arrow. If it is between MA and lower BB , then it shows one Pink down arrow and lastly 2 red down arrows for being under the lower BB line.
BB Width: (BB high-BB low) it shows the volatility of the RSI. Green color means increasing, Red decreasing.
At first glimpse, the values' interpretation is this (roughly):
0 - 2 No trades on the currency, BB is squeezed.
2.2 - 4.5 Breakout or a counter
4.5 - 7 Moderate trend
7.5+ (mostly higher, from 8.5+) - Wild moves, heavy trending
the colors help you to see if the price is in full power or the trend has run its course.
Hi_TF: predefined higher TF's RSI values.
Notice: By these new features the indi has became slow, so for trading don't use more than 200 bars if you want to change the TFs. Once it has loaded it has no problems, but firstly you have to wait; don't be too anxious. If any of you has improvements of how to make it faster, I'd be glad if you help me, but today this is the max that i could do.
1.7 version
- I've added the actual graphs of the crosses. So if you click EUR and USD you will see the EURUSD besides the two original graphs. For visibility it works only with 2 currencies, so if you click to another one it disappears.
- I've coded the options of MA / BB and Hi_TF into buttons also for easier handling
- Minor color changes of CHF and CAD
1.6 version
- RSI is 14 (non variable) - this is the standard and by changing the number you change mostly only the curves amplitude, so I stayed with the original one.
- SMA has changed to 12 and attached to the Bollinger Bands.
- Bollinger Bands (BB) : SD is 0.67. The BB act as a neutral zone. In order to accelerate first the RSI has to get out from the „river-bed”. The two BB lines act as a support or resistance lines, but their acts are largely depends on the actual case. Please see the sample pic to understand better, it is not so complex.
- Higher TF RSI (variable) : It is necessary to see that what happens on a larger TF if the move is a trend change or just a pullback. It has to set manually in case of autotimeframe too!
- Levels of RSI: the numbers on the left side I added are the derivatives of the levels of the right side in order to know the actual increase/decrease in prices. eg. level 50 = 50/50 = 1, level 66.6 is 66.6/33.3 =2 , level 30 is 30/70 =-2.33.
- And of course the buttons. It is a lot easier to click than trying to untangle those lines which is which. A really cool stuff, thanks Gary
I attach the mod of Slopestrenght, it shows all of the RSI values. I havent changed it on anything except levels of color changes (36/44/50/56/64)
I hope you find it useful
cheers

ps. please download here the latest versions, not from the posts. thanks.
I attached my default templates.
