Holy Graily Bob 'n Dotty 'n Super Slope 'n Flying Buddha

EA's inspired by nanningbob's work here, especially those based on his 240 Moving Average trend detection filter.

Firstly,, A huge thanks for the groundbreaking work that TraderJoe is doing and importantly for Steve in supporting TJF's work :good:

A few weeks ago TraderJoe mentioned the possibility of including Hgi in the mix....Well I've had my thinking caps on since then and have worked on a combination. It is by no means something that is refined and still in raw stages.

However I do not doubt the power of Hgi and if superslope is thrown in the mix let alone Flying Buddha we have a strong combination.

Losses will be taken and the Ea will handle it for you. I do not have a grid or hedge strat with this.

Trades are taken If I get a a blue wavy or trend signal on the 1hr timeframe. For this I use the 1 Hr Hgi Matrix to quickly open the relevant chart and I load HolygrailBob 'n Dotty 'n Superslope 'n Flying Buddha template with the relevant set file below. A quick and structured method without thinking when the signal is given. This set is tweaked to get the most of out of each trade and I do not particularly look at a basket exit strategy.

I was not sure if I should post it here as TraderJoe is on a roll and I don't want to hog his thinking process so please feel free to tell me to open another thread that incorporates Hgi.

Anyway here goes with today's results 384 pips.

I already have tests underway with 50 pips and 100 pips. It does not include a basket exit but individual trade exits. The wonderful thing with these settings is that I can use jumpstops within the Ea. Still testing this.

Here is the set to be placed on the latest Ea as posted by Steve.

Cheers
Leon
Just a quick thought on this though.. if you want to use H1 HGI as the trade setup why do you need to do this manually with HGI matrix? If the EA has trend HGI set to H1 won't this trade the way you have described anyway or am I missing something?

Hi TJF,

A very valid question. I am so sorry, I actually forgot to mention this yesterday. :youknow:

Yes, you can leave it on your selected pairs and it will do exactly what it is intended to do. However, here is my thinking..You will also get Hgi trend signals toward the end of a run and these are the signals that usually turn against us and the ones I want to avoid.

Since we have had sixths and Hilo in the mix my thinking has changed. I do not want to take a buy trade in the sixths and hilo sell zones for example and I would have had 2 pairs that would have opened buy trades in the Sixths Sell zone if I had just left it on the charts. I have Radar's static Peak Hilo loaded on my charts to quickly squizz the charts before I load the Ea.

Of course we can simply use sixths and Hilo filters that are there for us in the Ea.

Edit: In addition to this we can also set the ea to take short trades only if we are in the sixths and hilo sell zones for example if we are going to leave the ea unsupervised...Just another thought.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

To expand a bit. TJf has actually made me think a bit and take a step back :good: .

Not every one will be on the same level of experience etc. So you can leave the Ea as is on the chart and let it do its thing. In fact this is exactly what I did when I started it, and my winners still outweighed my losses. Only advice is, do not use it on too many charts as you will have too much going on. The majors will be a good place to start. You will get enough trades trust me. :)

And yes, for the more conservative traders I advise max 5 trades per pair.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

In case this helps with the thinking here is a chart showing the relationship between Peak High Low, D1 CSS, Flying Buddha's and HGI for recent EURGBP.... (I have dissabled range and rads, so the small arrows are FB and the large arrows HGI).

As you know by now I look at Flying Buddhas as a breakout indicator and of course the final FB before price turns will be the reversal indicator. However when looking at any given FB in isolation you do not know whether it is continuation or reversal until the price action that follows.

This is where D1 SuperSlope and Peak High Low come in because if we only trade with the daily direction away from most recent peaks then we have the best chance of getting more winners than losers.

Adding HGI to the mix is interesting because there can be a substantial delay between the reversal happening as taken from the last FB and then getting a trend wavy and/or trend arrow. Perhaps a lower timeframe HGI would work better with a higher timeframe FB? The question is whether this adds any benefit but it may well do so ... do keep going with this line of thinking and see what develops. This is the beauty of testing with EA's .. there are so many ways to configure (thank you Steve) .. and occasionally we can output a gem.

The latest discussion here has prompted V 1a in post 1. You will also need need the updated core library at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 48#p152048.

The new feature tells the bot to sell only in the top sixths and buy only in the bottom, then trade in either direction in the middle of the chart. My idea is to divide the chart into quarters. All this is enabled by default, so remember to make any amendments to the inputs that would suit you better.

I accidentally left offsetting and gridding enabled in 1a, so I have uploaded it again along with a fresh template.

Hey guys. I just deleted a post by a member too thick to read post 1.

As usual.

I merely deleted this idiot's post. In future, I delete entire registrations.

I know most so-called 'contributors' are too stupid to read my post 1. I will not make any attempt to cater for them.

Moving on to the five or so of you with brains, I had an idea whilst a lolling in the bath this morning.

As an example of what came to me, suppose we are using the sixths filter. The bot has triggered a number of buys on its climb up the chart. It moves into the sell only zone, then reaches the half way point of the sell only zone.

Is that a good place to close all those wonderfully profitable buys and throw a party?

:xm:

Incidentally, using the sixths filter and trying to make the damn thing both display the trading zone and display the lines correctly this morning required two thingies:
  • BlshShowTradingArea needed to be set to 'true' for the bot to display the trading zone. This is not helpful and I will give it some thought.
  • Nothing I tried would make the peaks display correctly using dynamic calculation of noOfBars - the very problem that radar is addressing in his static version of Peak Hilo. In the end, I surrendered and in the core code library i changed line 2577 to noOfBars = 1800; This will cause some charts to display peaks from the left had side invisible on the chart. I don't care. Better this than ridiculous values.
Remember to save the core library then compile the EA to incorporate this change into your own work. A lot of charts have a max of 1692 bars, so noOfBars = 1692; might be a better setting for this.
