Peaky Fifo

Post by cozybooks »

Peaky Fifo closed $ 337.10 in trades for November. Added to its previous winnings brings it to a total of $906.43. Now for the down side - after never going past $450 in drawdown since starting in August, the drawdown reached about $850 during the past week - about 17% on a 5k account. This is pretty high for my tastes, and would indicate that you might need more like an 8-10k account to run this successfully. I starting copying some of the pending trades into an Oanda manual account starting with $100 trades for every .01 the EA sends out. So far the live account is up about $7.00 in closed profits - Draw down is about the same.

I'll try to keep the demo running. I know it will make regular profits as the months roll along - the big question is how high the draw down will get.

Cheers! :)

Peaky Fifo keeps chugging along, both demo and my baby live version.

Demo: Up $189.15 in closed trades so far for December (a cool 1003 pips). Added to my previous profit, I am now at $ 1,095,58. Draw down peaked at $860, and is now down under $430.

Live: I put $100 into an Oanda account (with the idea that I will give it extra money when/if it needs it). As Peaky Fifo has been kicking out pending stop orders, I have been duplicating them on the Oanda account manually, using lot sizes of $100 for .01 lot size Peaky Fifo is generating. Live version has been running about four weeks. All trades closed on the live version right now - I am sitting at $113.34 on the live account, a nifty profit of $ 13.34 on my $100.

I will keep the demo going and keep going live. In the 4-1/2 months the demo has been running, Peaky Fifo has been a consistent money maker. It will be interesting to watch it moving forward.

Happy Trading!

Peaky Fifo keeps chugging along. Demo up $ 284.24 in closed trades so far in December. Total profits to date since beginning of August are $ 1190.67

For 2018, I will leave the demo running permanently. I am manually copying the trades to a small Oanda account. I will dedicate up to $1,000 to the account if needed, but I doubt it will ever need me to provide it more than $400-500. I will use $100 lot sizes in the live account for every .01 lot size on the demo. Demo is running 20 pairs right now. I may increase that slightly - undecided at this point.

Slight changes to EA settings: Maximum of 4 trades per pair. With increasing lots, that means my maximum exposure on any pair will be .10 (.04, .03, .02, and .01 trades open). Price has to move a LOT for this to happen.
TP is 150% of Daily ATR (365 periods) - see attached indi, which defaults to this.
MarketDistancePips=300% of Daily ATR (365). So my profit, distance between trades, and basketcashprofittarget is now different for each pair, which should help in draw down issues with pairs like GBPAUD. It should also provide a greater profit on those pairs rather than settling for the 105 pip profit it was generating.

I would only run this live on an account with $1,000 minimum lot size on an account of $10,000. I was debating running this live with the EA on a $7,500, but Mr. Popoki (as pictured) coincidentally decided to run up $ 7,500 in emergency surgery bills, so I will adapt accordingly :) .

I'll update from time to time in case anyone ever stumbles across the thread and wants to give this a try.

Happy trading!

Peaky Fifo long term demo finished December up $ 319.65 in closed trades. Added to my November total of 906.43, and my total profit is $ 1,226.08, which covers August-December. Total drawdown is $ 448.00 at the moment, very manageable. Peaky Fifo has had a very nice 2017! :yahoo:    :yahoo:

My live cents ago using manual trades, which I started in mid November, is up $ 15.96 in closed trades (including all interest/rollover costs). Drawdown is currently $ 2.74. I funded this with only $100, with the idea that I would add money to support it as needed. So technically, I am up over 15% in closed trades on my $100 investment. With only 8 trades open at the moment, I'm using 30% of my available margin with those tough U.S. margin requirements on various pairs, so I expect to have to give it a little bit more funding at some point just to cover the number of trades as more trades open up.

Hoping for more big things in 2018 from Peaky Fifo. I have increased to 24 pairs. If all goes well, I hope to give the live cents account some additional money to play with over time to be able to increase lot sizes. I read a blurb recently suggesting that you divide your total forex investment into ten different accounts, with the idea that you can try different strategies, pairs or timeframes in different accounts, but also with the idea that if you have a major event on one symbol or just tough times with one strategy, it will only take out 10% of your investment if it blows up. I'm already up to six baby $50-100 sub-accounts on Oanda with three different strategies (separate buy and sell account for each strategy), so I think I am rapidly heading that way.

Happy New Year! :yahoo: :)

Peaky Fifo

After all these months, I finally encountered an aspect of Peaky Fifo which makes sense, but I had never really thought about. On the long running demo I had two sell trades of AUDNZD which were running at a loss. There were out there so long that price eventually broke the lower sixths line (even though that now was above the existing sell trades).

When Peaky dutifully sent out a new buy trade, it got rid of all pending sell trades for AUDNZD and closed the existing sell trades, at a loss of 286 pips. I wasn't sure I liked this at first because I hate to close any trade for a loss without offsetting profitable trades, but I think this will work well in the long term.

With the $ 26.95 loss taken on those trades, Peaky Fifo is still up $ 27.29 for the month of January so far. Meanwhile, my live Oanda cents account is now up $ 20.33 in closed trades since starting it in Mid November. Considering I only put $100 into the account to start, and that I'm trading essentially lot sizes of $100 instead of $1000, this is pretty astounding. I have to enter these trades manually, but it only takes a few minutes at most to check the EA every day and see if there are any new trades.

My plan is to increase the amount in my cents account every month and slowly raise the lot sizes, but in the Meantime, Peaky Fifo is doing a nice job of raising the amount in the account for me!

Peaky Fifo monthly update:

End of March 2018 results:
Long term Peaky Fifo demo: March closed trades: + $ 275.89
Total Profit on closed trades - August - March (8 Months) + $ 2,070.92
Drawdown at end of March for open trades: $ 1002.00 (closed profit is growing, but the open drawdown is growing as well - this will be a very good test for Peaky Fifo - how high will the drawdown grow?)

Peaky Fifo live cents account on Oanda using manual trades (Started Mid November with $100):
Closed March trades: + $ 8.80. Total since going live mid-November: + $ 74.02
current drawdown: $ - 55.16. Drawdown grew high enough in March that I had to loan the live account $30 to keep it from a margin problem.

Checking in at the Lonely Peaky Fifo Forum for my monthly update:

Peaky Fifo long running demo had a very big month!
$ 494.36 in closed trades for the month, $2565.28 total on a demo running since August 2017. If you were running this live on a $10,000 account, you would be up over 25% in 9 months. Drawdown has dropped to only $410.00.

Live cents account with manual trades had $ 11.17 in closed trades, for a total of $ 85.19. I've invested $130 total ($100 originally and $30 when the account was close to a margin call). That's a cool 65% return since November 2017. Drawdown on the live account is now $ 18.40

From Day one, Peaky Fifo has been a winner. The only real question has been how large the drawdown would be. I'm guessing you would need several years data to have a better idea, but if you had a $10,000 account, drawdown so far would have topped off at about 11-12% so far.

I will try to keep the long term demo going at least to the one year mark. LOL - if someone wants to spot me the $10,000, I'll be happy to go live with the full thing. Meanwhile, I will look to add some money to the live penny account and slowly increase lot sizes on future trades.

Happy Trading!
