I'm not sure if you are correct (meaning I think you are not, but I'm not sure :? ). Surely if a candle closes then if a big arrow is visible on that closed candle, even one second after it closes, then that's it. It cannot disappear and won't be adjusted - it surely has to be fixed in place and be permanent? I suppose I need to wait for the markets to open and set a M5 chart and just stare at it for a while
Spudfan, I will make one brief foray here.

You can either:
  • Accept the assurance of those of us here who know what we are talking about, that looking back in time at HGI is a waste of time and save yourself from wasting lots of time.
  • Carry on insisting that it is not a waste of time, waste lots of time trying to prove it and then realise you have wasted lots of time and retire in embarrassment.
I do not care which you do, but if you continue to insist that you are right, I will remove your posting rights from you.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

Apologies for causing offence, Steve, I do know that looking back at chart history is a waste of time, yet it is very tantalising and so I got sucked into doing just that. I won't go that route here again.

Anyway guys just something I am exploring as touched on in the previous post. Here you ignore Moving averages, and sixths.

Thanks to eRikb81 who originally posted this method in the following thread http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 17#p158414

You can basically trade any time frame. You need the knoxville divergence indicator. I trade the range wavy, trend wavy and trend arrow with the divergence signal given. These divergence are non repainting and given as is. It even gives you a message that a divergence has occured.

Anyway the chart is self explanatory. Do not trade this live. I am still forward testing this.

Cheers
Leon
Hi Leon,
I can't get your diverg. lines shown on those 1Hr charts using 300 candles, would you mind posting a screenshot of the settings so I can check. Also the lovely shaded areas you have above resist. and below supp. are they a different Indi or have you drawn them in Empty4.??

Macush, there is nothing much to it, anyway here's the screenshot.

The shaded box areas are the "Sixths_SQ mod1.2" indicator coded by Bruster with "Show Trade zone Boxes" set to true.

Unless you are referring to those little shaded boxes 2 pages ago. Those I drew to show possible reversal points.

Today has been text book for me, all trades locked in on EurUsd with some xtras made on scalpies.

All working acordingly. One min timeframe with divergences, and Hgi and peaky 150 bar lookback did the trick. Anyhow tuesday, wednesday for a final push and reversal thursday upcoming. Thanks Vince " Pacinvest" for the ma b/bands indicator, it helps

Cheers
Leon

With other pairs in range mode, cable did the business for me today with a straightforward +75 pips so far (SL = 1.3980):-

Following Steve’s comments about the use of historical HGI data being a waste of time, my curiosity about what actually happens to a signal over its life-time led me to do some empirical research.

Steve, if you will indulge me and not ban me, I think my findings underline your point well. I’ve also not seen this kind of work on HGI reported anywhere on the forum or elsewhere.

I observed 12 cases, keeping detailed records of every signal and every change – a move up/down, a disappearance, a re-appearance. I did this for big arrows on M15 only. I can’t speak about any other case, but I guess the story is the same.

For clarity, I have named the original signal candle “bar 1”, the next candle bar 2 etc.

As soon as a big arrow formed on bar 1 I noted its position and the time and then refreshed the chart frequently and in this way tracked every change – some big arrows stayed entirely stable and are still visible – the original arrows. I found 3 of the 12 cases were like that.

Most big arrows moved between once and 4 times on bar 1 while it was active, or disappeared or re-appeared fairly freely once bar 1 had closed.

Of my 12 cases, I recorded 32 big arrow changes (move, disappear, re-appear), not counting the original big arrow.

The longest ‘life-span’ of a big arrow that I found was 5 candles – to my surprise I saw a big arrow re-appear on bar 1 as a result of price movement on bar 5. This confirms for me that not only is a signal not fixed in place after bar 1 closes, but it can continue to fool us long after. I used M15, but if H4 works the same it would be 20 hours or up to 5 days later on D1.

My work is limited by being only on M15 and only 12 cases, but there's no mistaking the story it tells.

I hope this proves useful!

Yes, very interesting, thanks Bill. I actually read that thread a while back didn't quite get what Tomele was on about. Now I do. Good thing too. If Tomele had read my little piece on the 'life history of an HGI signal' a while back he might never have started that initial project, and we might not have benefitted from the MTF HGI indies he ended up producing!

I installed both of those indicators on a chart but everything inside the indie windows remained blank. Not sure what the issue is as I tried various fixes without any joy.

Thanks for the reference.

Hi Leon, the Knoxville divergence indicator looks really useful, thank you for sharing it. On your chart you annotated "divergence followed by range wavy, trend wavy, trend arrow - sell/buy" Does this mean buy/sell if any one of these three signals appears, or only after all three have appeared? (I assume "any of", but wanted to check).

How has your testing of this indicator gone? Are you still happy to use it only in conjunction with HGI signals? Would you take a trade where the KDI is in a top/bottom sixth with nothing else supporting it?
