Considering the number of downloads, I'm surprised more people aren't raving about this!

I think the problem is that the sheer number of fantastic EA's that have emerged recently have swamped peoples' ability to test them all. It would have done mine were it not for subscribing to Eaymon's Power VPS - http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 103&t=5282

I keep banging on about this because it is fantastic, peeps. Members of the Affluent West, it is dirt cheap and you really should give it a try. Those of you unable to afford it, I suggest you read all of the posts at SHF whenever they arrive; they are holding invaluable information.

I know this will be a painful experience but guess what? I don't care. Try it for once. You never know, but once you have experienced the agony you might even come to enjoy the learning experience. I doubt it in your case, as I doubt that you possess the firing synapses that will allow this to happen, but where there is life there is hope. Especially considering that it takes months of testing before drawing meaningful conclusions.

I am definitively lost in the vast array of potentials.
After months of Forex abstinence trying to get back into it. Thought to finally start spending quality testing time on tweaks of Awesome.
Now thinking WT.. happened
A sheer explosion of candidates to test, ... so where to start.
It can be hard being a kid in a candy store.

Ok, so quoting myself but this is to illustrate the additional explanation I am about to write.

I am against members posting setfiles. I was prepared to ban them altogether a few years ago but was persuaded not to by members. I still loathe seeing it when it happens.

Last night I was unfairly irritated by szfxtrader's request for yet another setfile. It seems to me that every time a thoughtful, valuable member os SHF posts some results, some dummy asks for the setfile. szfxtrader merely caught the tail end of my irritation.

Here is the problem with using somebody else's setfile: it will not work for you. Guess how I know?

If you are unlucky enough not to be able to trade with Global Prime as your broker, you will be trading with a criminal and a different feed. Said crim will be getting up to various nefarious tricks to separate you from your cash. Different feeds = different results, and that is before we get into criminal behaviour - or at least behaviour that should be criminal.

So you can trade through GP? You will have a different appetite to risk. You have been lazy and are trying to piggy-back on the work of someone with brains who has taken the time to make an EA work for him/herself. You will panic and pull the plug long before the setfile creator would have done. You will have limited demo resources and will pull the plug on the EA after a couple of days of demo testing, and move on to the next sweetie. Guess how I know - and I create the sweeties?

I could go on, but here is the biggest difference: the trader presenting the results has invested some time and thought into working out how to make the EA profitable, on demo at least. You are a lazy freeloader with as much chance of success trading Forex as I have of becoming the first Queen of a newly-monarchised China.

Forex trading is not a game for lazy and thoughtless children unable to devote the attention required to learn to be successful.

My personal Holy Grail is to develop an EA that will allow such lazy and thoughtless children to be successful even though they have no idea what is going on. In this context, "lazy and thoughtless children" are friends and relatives able to put $500 into a GP starter account and grow it until they have a guaranteed pension pot.

So, lay and stupid lusters after setfiles, work stuff out for yourselves. Imagine the legacy you would leave the kids were you able to make one of the EA's on offer here create a fortune.

Or you can carry on irritating me and eventually attract a ban. Your choice folks.

I absolutely understand your point Steve and it is a bit - to put it understated - 'irritating' to see most often new members begging for set-files.... and then complain that they don't perform as turn-key cash machines.

However I would respectfully submit to you, that there are long term members that do benefit from set-files as it helps as BASIS for further testing of variations, and as a control to compare their own results.
I even like especially to see set-files that don't work (as it helps further work and prevents survival bias creeping in). I often wonder if good ideas get incorrectly abandoned as EA's might by chance be tested during a bad patch.

In an ideal world you might want to restrict downloading of set-files to members that fall in a certain class or to members that made enough quality posts - if the forum software would allow that. Some years ago I was one of the moderators in a 'futures' oriented forum where the goodies were mostly restricted to elite members. It was partly a way to generate income for site maintenance, but it also helped to weed out the leaches.

The above is so true.

I had CandlePower [see my post there] also on a live cent-account, and got burned. I lost 10% in a few days, where at GP[demo] it made a killing with the same settings.

In my opinion it has to do with speed of execution and of course manipulation.
Cent accounts are per definition handled in house, as the market won't accept these orders.
