I think Rene has it, the probability of the subsequent basket closure is not dependent on the previous basket. We've had good results letting SPB do it's own thing in this regard so not sure it gets us any extra edge. Might be my biases coming into play though...

The problem as I see it is that we have arbitrarily set the TP value for the basket and so the moves could one basket, or multiple baskets before the move runs out of steam. The trailing stop that was implemented (big thank you) could see this resolved IMO.

So, we have a basket close and cheer mightily. Mine just did and I am indeed cheering mightily. Another $120 in the equity across two of my accounts.

The bot instantly sends a new grid of stop orders because the trading conditions are still in place. Here is the question. Should we introduce a delay before this happens?

I don't believe so.
I have spent a bit of time wondering why SPB was so successful and I think it is because it is almost always in the market in the direction of the trend using 2 long term indicators. The chances on entering a trade at the exact moment price reverses and never comes back enough to close out at a profit is very small. It will happen every so often but you should have made enough profit to cover this. If price is dangerously close to being over bought / sold peaky deals with that (not buying the high) and if the trend unexpectedly reverses the superslope picks that up.

If you delay the new grid, then you might reduce drawdown, but you also might miss a big run, but that would just be luck.

I thought that what the safety feature "MinMinutesBetweenTrades" was for... I've set it to 60 minutes in my demo, and it sure looks like it waits that long after a basket closes before it starts a new set.

No need to shoot me if I'm wrong, though... I've got plenty of holes in my feet ;)

Have fun! =8^)

Basket Trailing Stop

Post by Radar »

Thanks John and Steve for the basket trailing stop :)
I'll be adding an instance of SPB with the BTS on the weekend (with a different magic number, and a second instance of the trade2db ea for tracking).

Have fun! =8^)

Basket Trailing Stop

Hi Radar.

If it's on the same account, that will not be necessary (and not possible). The connector EA transmits all trades of an account or those given in the list of magic number you can enter in the settings.

Cheers

Hi @all.

I have started a little coordinated test of a single SPB aspect. Look here: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 63#p162363

Nice one Thomas,

I've set up a couple of demos for testing... :D

[Edit] Side-note FYI for Vanilla version of SPB in Post 1 of this thread:
Setting the EA to trade only positive swap currency pairs does limit many opportunities to trade a basket of currencies... significantly! as compared to trading currency pairs individually as seen in EA POS. Depending on which trading method you use (basket or single pairs) and the amount of appetite for risk that you're willing to take (DD)... will determine whether you use this switch or not.

Hi Peter.

I really appreciate your participation. But I cant see your tests in the etherpad yet.

Not sure if I understand your point about swaps. There is no swap filter involved in the test setups. Nor was a swap filter involved in the test results that inspired the tests. I want to keep the whole thing as simple as possible.

Cheers

Hi Steve,
I saw that you put up Gareth's set file. This speaks volumes to me about your confidence in SPB. Thank you very much for doing that.

Also I just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved. You folks deserve acknowledgement for all of the hard work you are putting in to this.

As for the limitation I can't really say one way or the other. On the long side, god forbid, yes this of course would make sense for a lot of reasons. On the other hand I short 95% of the time and even though I hate snow with a passion I wouldn't want to limit the advancing avalanche in my favor. :xm:
