I really appreciate your participation. But I cant see your tests in the etherpad yet.

Not sure if I understand your point about swaps. There is no swap filter involved in the test setups. Nor was a swap filter involved in the test results that inspired the tests. I want to keep the whole thing as simple as possible.

Cheers

Hi Thomas,

I was referencing to Vanilla version of SPB re: Swaps :D

I'll make it clear in my post...

Firstly, thank you for a wonderful EA.

I just had a further idea, given the high number of currency pairs that we can trade and which at times can cause high DD:

Is it possible to code a filter in SPB that will prevent a buy trade if the price is say 15 pips below a possible resistance level, eg. EURCAD = 1.53850 some 15 pips below 1.54000, assuming that 1.54000 is a possible resistance level, and vice versa for sell trades.

Don't know if it will work, but might be worth a try?

I do not think so. We are grid and basket trading in the direction of a pair's strength/weakness and so do not really care about perceived s/r from the past. These are only cycles within cycles within cycles and these levels are going to be broken.

The response to my asking if there is a demand for a delay once a basket closes shows that there is not - plus radar is using one of the existing inputs to achieve this, so no need for an extra input.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I have another idea that I will put out, based on what just happened.

It is 18.20 London time, so roughly 27 hours 40 minutes to go until the markets effectively shut down for the weekend. I was watching Gareth's account when his second $30 basket closed this week (don't you just love it when this happens?) We are all finding that baskets take a while to get going and that SPB immediately sends fresh pending orders following a basket closure. Baskets do not often hit their TP in the time left before the markets close, so I took the platform off the VPS and deleted the fresh stop orders.

Is there a demand for a TradingDoneForTheWeek input as we have used in other EA's. Here is what I am thinking:
  • There is a weekly profit target - say roughly two basket closures.
  • We have a target day by which we want to hit this target - say Thursday.
  • Thursday (or whatever day we choose) arrives and we have hit our profit target. SPB sends no fresh stop orders after a basket closure, and closes all stop orders if we have no market trades open.
Post your thoughts and I will do some more coding over the weekend.

I have already added a pips-based basket trailing stop in response to the request from Thomas; I will delay releasing it until I see what the response is to my thoughts here.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Hey Steve,

Something like that would make sense on a Wednesday going into a Thursday. I am usually done trading by (Thursday 12am CDT) Friday 8AM your time.

I think there is demand for this and needs testing. Good idea...

Being the guy who is after the big fish (like 10,000 pips as basket target), I would say yes. Lets say such a basket took 5 weeks to develop and closes on Tuesday or Wednesday. I would like to enjoy that for the rest of the week. Especially on turnaround Thursday and boring or possibly volatile NFP Friday I wouldn't want a new cycle to start then. So yes, this feature looks useful to me.

Cheers

This clinches it and the rest of you do not need to bother to post. Thomas has a certain amount of influence around here, in case you have not noticed.

I will code this feature as both a cash and pips thingy. I will try to do it in time for next week.

Thanks for your contributions folks. SHF would not be the force it is without you.

Steve for information regarding the manual and the Grid Sizing section.

It states:-
UseAtrForGrid: this allows you to use ATR to calculate
DistanceBetweenTradesPips dynamically. The following three inputs allow you
to set your ATR inputs.

The manual then goes on to discuss basket trading and makes no mention of the 3 inputs.

The reason why I was reading this section was I because I was wondering if I have a pair with an ATR of 100 and I set the GridAltMultiplier to 0.25 would the EA open grids spaced at 25 pips ie divide whatever the set daily ATR is in quarters for grid spacing. I suspect this to be the case but read the manual for confirmation, always best to be sure.

Correct. 100 x 0.25 = 25

I did not bother describing the inputs because: anybody using ATR already understands them; I loathe writing user guides and was bored. I will add an explanation today as I will have to edit the guide to explain the latest features; it will help noobs.
