Wavegarrick's HGI Trading

Post by Bruster400 »

Hi all,

I've been following this thread with interest for the last few days. It particularly appeals to me because of the "trend" given by the two 34 MAs. I'm a firm believer that taking little bites out of a bigger trend is the best way to trade so I'm always interested when a new way of indicating "trend" is given.

However, I was finding it difficult to see the orientation of the MA's in the indicator window because I don't like to have the window too big. I, therefore did this quick mod of the indicator so that it calculates the two MA's internally and looks to see which is above which. It then plots this as a simple ribbon which is easier to see. Seeing the MA's orientation is made more difficult by the fact that they sometimes come together rather than simply cross. To account for this in this indicator, if the MAs are trending apart (down or up) and then they then come together, the indicator will stay signalling the existing trend until they actually move apart in the opposite direction. The amount that they have to move apart to trigger a trend change is set using the MinCrossGap.

Please bear in mind that this isn't something new - the MA cross for "Trend" is part of Wavegarrick's system and I've used the original indicator as a base to ensure that everything aligns perfectly. All I've done is create a new way to show the original info

I uploaded earlier today a screenshot of USDCHF shwoing blue MA crossing red MA UP, more than 1 closed bar back.

Now it appears to change.

Ok, so here's what I think is happening... The red line that you've highlighted is a plot of the D1 Sto7 value at each 1hr bar. So on hour 1 of the day the indi looks to see what the D1 Sto value is and it plots it, then hour 2 it checks again and plots the new value, then hour 3 etc etc. In your first image, your chart had been open for the whole of the day and so it had managed to capture new D1 Sto7 values for each hour. When you re-loaded the template the red line can only see what the D1 Sto7 value is right now. There is no record of what the D1 value was an hour ago because the D1 candle isn't closed. That is why all previous days are flat lines - they are just the single closed value for the day.

It's that old "wet paint" rather than re-painting problem. You have to realise that when you're using HTF data - everything between HTF closes can change.

Hope that helps clear that up.

I confused with the color names.
I meant the Magenta MA.
The Blue MA crossed the Magenta MA in the morning (both current TF, not daily).

Yes, but both MA is based (calculated) on daily stoch.
At least I think.

PS: Excuse my bad Englich please.

I think this is not based on daily stoc.
The Blue MA is Linear, that means it gives more emphasis to last closed bars than older previous bars.
So as long current bar and most close previous bars change to opposite direction, the Linear MA changes its direction fast as well. The problem is that the result of this is "wet paint".

The two 34 period MA's (which also make up the trend ribbon) are calculated using the Sto7 D1 values. One MA is SMA and the other is LWMA which is why they have different values but the same period and they both look at the same data. Just because a new "value" for the MA's is plotted on each H1 bar it doesn't mean that it's based on H1 data. The value at an hour is made up of an average of 33 fixed D1 Sto7 values (closed) and the latest "wet" D1 Sto7 value from that hour today. That means the very end of the MA's will wiggle over the course of the day as the D1 sto7 moves around changing the 34th data value each hour.

I think it's Awesome.
Can it be modified to close the trade on colour change if we wanted?

You won't really understand GRACE until you fully realise you've been GRACED.
