Flip Flop

Post by JonCodesBad »

Flip Flop is a visual trading aid for manual trading. It is an EA, so it goes in the Experts folder.

It simply flips the chart horizontally in it's current position. It can add “Flip Flop Trend lines" which will also be flipped.

It's main use is to spot price patterns in down-trends. For some reason they are harder to spot than in up-trends, especially when trying to BARF.

It works by turning on “Line chart” and printing new candles which look the same, just upside down. Bull Candles will turn to Bear candles & vice versa, flipped on the x axis.

Jon

Edit: Adding a quickly botched together user guide

User Inputs:
Auto Line Color: Default is true.
In this state the “Line chart” is hidden by changing it's colour to your background colour. Like we all did when playing with Heiken Ashi candles.

Remove_FF_TL_On_Close: Default is false.
In this state when you remove the EA the Flip Flop Trend Lines (FF_TLs) will remain on the chart.
If set to true, only the FF_TL(s) will be deleted.

Colour(s) Self explanatory.

X_Position: Horizontally move the controls.
Y_Position: Vertically move the controls.

Note: The controls can only be moved when first put on a chart. You can edit the x/y on lines 34/5 and re-compile.
Example:
input int X_Position = 250;

User guide:

Flip Flip radio button:
Toggle On/Off.
Flips the chart and any FF_TLs. When the chart is flipped the button reads Flipped and changes colour.
You can Zoom in/out but can't scroll or use the vertical scale in the Flipped position.
If you want to change Timeframes, scroll, etc. Flip back to the Normal position first, then after changing Timeframe, compressing on the vertical scale etc you can flip back to the Flipped position.

Note: In the flipped position prices are obviously meaningless.

+/: Add FF_TL Button.
When the chart is ONLY in the “Flipped” position pressing the +/ button will add a FF_TL. You can position it as you normally would. There is no limit to how many can be added to a chart.

Note: Again, flip to the Normal position when Zooming in/out, scrolling, resizing and changing timeframe, then after you've made changes, flip to the Flipped position. If you don't, things can quickly get messy with the Tls

x/: Delete FF_TL Button
This will delete ALL of the FF_TLs on the current chart.

EDIT: 1/3/19 Added v1.01
A Minor update.
User Inputs:
  • "Flipped Colour" can now be changed.
When changing user inputs, Flip Flop button doesn't stick in the "Flipped" position anymore.
User inputs are hopefully easier to read now.

Thanks Steve, I didn't expect that. I'm greatly honored. :good:

Of course 10 minutes after posting I spotted a few minor bugs. :uff:

I know It's not ideal having to "Flip" to change timeframes, but as you can imagine there's no easy way around it because of the re-initialization. I'm working on it!

Can you please give us an example what price patterns you better spot with horizontally flipped chart?

That is exactly what I wanted to ask.

Sure.

This is an obvious BARF. To be fair it was one of those that stood out on the normal chart, even so, being so glaringly obvious, I still see it more clearly this way up.

I coded Flip Flop for my own use, then I recalled several people mention in CJ's thread that downhill BARF's are alot harder to spot. So I thought I'd share it.

FF is either helpful to you, or it's not.

Playing around.
GBPUSDH1 Overlay.png
For those who trade CJ's methods. With "Auto Line Color" set to false( or flick normal candles on whilst in "Flipped" mode) & Chart Scroll off you can see recent patterns repeat themselves.

I'm still only playing around with the overlay thingy. I don't know if it will make me any money yet. But Flip Flop has kept me out of one bad trade in the last week(Gut feel... didn't like the look of the flipped chart) & into one good one.

Cheers

Jon.

Hi.

Obvious? You talk about that chart, right? Nothing is obvious for me there.
EURUSDDaily.png
That might be a descending triangle (unconfirmed), a double bottom (unconfirmed) or a consolidation zone(of course). I don't really see how turning this upside down does change anything.

I admit I am not a CJ follower. I don't even really know what BARF means. I thought it was a plan to feed my dog in a natural way.

What I can see is that SPB (the combination of CSS and Peaky that has beaten everything else yet) wants to be LONG while you want to get out. Let's compare the outcome in a few weeks.

Cheers
Thomas

So what price action, naked trading methods do you trade?
If FF doesn't help in any way then more power to you! For me it's just another tool.
