Slopey Peaky Bob

Post by SarahS1977 »

Hi all,

Thank you for the very warm welcome and all the hard work and effort that has gone into this amazing forum.

I have read as much as I can over the last few days and as you can imagine there is rather a lot for a newbie to take in. You all owe me a new brain as mine has been BLOWN! The level of expertise and knowledge is astounding.

I Have a couple of questions that I am quite nervous to ask just in case they bring down the wrath of Steve and I have my membership revoked, however, this is the 'Newbie Discussion' and I am going to risk it....

After having read about the strategies on offer I have decided to start with Slopey Peaky Bob for several reasons including the fact it has the greatest name ever.

I initially want to trade the 1h chart manually so I can learn exactly how all the indicators work together and how the signals are generated before putting it into the hands of the EA.

I have read the user guide several times and think I have nailed it but I want to double check. I have loaded onto the template:
Peak HiLo (Peaky)
Baluda SuperSlope TD V2 (Slopey)(I have used this version because I also want to use Desky, who wouldn't?!)
I have attached a picture.

On SuperSlope I have changed the difference threshold and level cross value to 1, bars to calculate 2,000 and left slope MA period at 7.
I have left Peaky at default settings.
Have I missed anything? It looks good but I was slightly confused by the addition of Bob into the name, made me think there was a Bob indicator I was missing (HGI?) but this wasn't mentioned in the user guide.

Now TDesk,
I have read as much as my brain would take in and have attached a picture of how I currently have Desky setup. My confusion has come about because on Desky under SS H1 and SS H4 it shows a down arrow and SS D1 shows an up arrow, however, the last SS arrow on the D1 chart was a down arrow. I think I have not changed something on Desky that I should have done but for the life of me I can't work out what it is. If I want all 28 pairs to be analysed do I need the windows open?

Many thanks,

Hi Sarah.

TDesk shows the last state of H1 H4 D1 of SS. The values right of the SS sub-chart reflect that. The arrow you see on the SS main chart is that of H1 as the first (most left) is the SS main time frame - which is also graphically shown in the SS sub-chart. The chart time frame is irrelevant.

Get used to the idea that we at SHF often use indicators that are completely independent from the chart time frame and instead get calculated on their own, fixed time frames.

And yes, you have to open all 28 charts. This is very simple with TDesk. Read about it in the "manual" thread.

Thank you so much Thomas for your quick reply. I thought I would need all 28 windows open and have already found the post/thread that has the code to open all windows with the same template.

As opening all 28 slows my computer down to a crawl I might just open a few at a time and make a note of the ones of interest to open later. Going from Trade Station to Empty4 has been a shock to the system, from user friendly to pile of crap. I would not have considered it if it were not for this forum, the indicators available and Global's excellent reputation :D (FXCM scored 2/5 :( )

Many thanks,
S

Only the process of opening the charts might take a while. As soon as they all are up and running and the historical data is updated for each chart, everything will run smoothly.

There are some ways to speed things up:

- Decrease the amount of bars for chart and history in Empty4 options
- Decrease the amount of bars calculated by each indi where offered
- Increase the time between recalculation cycles where offered

Thank you is becoming my go to phrase in this forum and it's another one now! I had set the lookback period to 2,000 bars,I will alter that to 500 and then work on speeding everything else up.

Many thanks

Hi Sarah,

To add on. 500 bars is still too much and with 28 pairs open it will put a bit of strain on your PC. I will set the daily time frame to 30 bars look back. H4 to 50 and H1 to 100 bars. It makes no difference to the over all calculation of your signal should you have a shorter look back period.

Alternate the refresh periods of your daily to hourly time frame so the signals are not all read at the same time.

Cheers.

Another thingy you will not know about our beloved Empty4 is that minimised charts use far less resources than do full-sized ones. Use TDesk to minimize the charts once loaded, then only resize the ones you want to watch - even minimize those when you are away from the console.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

Hello Sarah,

Try this.

Set up a chart using the indis that you wish to use for your analysis and save it with a short name, eg "Chart XYZ". Close the chart.

Put SPB on an M1 XAUUSD chart and use "Chart XYZ" for the "TemplateName".
Set "WriteFileForTestDatabase" to false'
Set ""Send ToTDesk" to true.
Set up the rest of SPB's inputs as you want them making sure that Peaky is enabled as it is not showing in your snap of TDesk.

Put TDesk on an M1 XAUUSD chart and set it up as you wish.
Set "Chart XYZ" as the "TemplateName".

You should now have SPB's signals displayed on TDesk, if all looks correct save the set files of both.
To do your analysis click on the chevrons next to the pair name and the relevant chart will open. Close the chart when finished with to save memory.

Desky is the nickname of "TDesk Trading Partner EA" which, as you say you want to place your trades manually, I assume you are not using. The snapshot that you posted above is of TDesk, not Desky.

Hope this helps, give me a shout if something isn't working as it should.

Wow, thank you both again. I will be setting up TDesk as you suggested! I have been going through this forum practically all day, save for the school run. There really is so much on here, from tomorrow I am setting my mind to learning everything I can about Slopey Peaky Bob and TDesk. I feel this will give me the best start possible, however, I did come across Pip Cruiser today and that also caught my attention, so simple yet so effective! (No Sarah, focus)

I am still slightly confused with the Bob part of the name? I can find no mention in the user manual. I assume it is something to do with the amazing NanningBob but not sure....

Many thanks
