Scaling out/in has been a failure for me.
Hi Steve
Have you looked at how the trades closed out?
I have not used the latest scale out code you are using now but if it is like the original code we used in the SPB, I noticed that there was a problem with it.

I don't know if you are aware but all my CRAPPY ICMarkets accounts blew up.
This prompted me to look into the cause and at the same time I also looked at the scale out function and I found a problem with it.

When a trade closed partially, the remaining open trade would also close because the EA would keep the original SL intact so it will immediately see that the remaining open trade had also reached its scaling point and it will also partially close it and it will immediately do the same for the rest of the open trade.
So the scaling out function was working like a stepped SL and not as intended.
It would then wait for 30 pips or so and close out trade 2 also in the same way and then do the same for trades, 3, 4, 5 etc, (100% of each trade) all of them in a stepped fashion.

My fix was to RESET the SL of the partially closed trade to a new 1000 pip distance and this stopped the death by 1000 cuts. This technique works well because once the EA partially closes trade 1, it will leave it alone for a long while and it will then address trades 2, 3,4,5 etc which are also deep under water.
At that stage it doesn't matter which trade is partially closed because the margin impact is similar but it is probably better to move on to the next trade and to partially close trades 2,3,4 etc.

Another problem I'm addressing now is the trade size.
Some time ago, I introduced automatic calculation of the trade size based on pip value ( I used the SPB risk percent function (1000pip SL and 2% risk)) This gave me a more balanced trade size across all pairs but it didn't address the problem where some currency pairs had large trading ranges.
My fix was to divide the calculated trade size in pairs like the GBPUSD,GBPJPY,GBPCHF by 2
,GBPNZD by 4, EURAUD by 2 and EURJPY by 1.5
Of course if we don't use these pairs we don't need to do this division
and also this technique only works on large size accounts because on small accounts the trade size 0.01 cannot be divided further.

I hope this helps
Have a nice day

Thanks for your observations Bill.

You can hardly expect scaling to work if you are using old and faulty code rather then the corrected and working code. That is bonkers.

I am not going to get into the lot size thingy. I would lose the will to live quite rapidly.

I have been on a bit of a slow burn today. This tends to have a drastic effect on the member who was daft enough to cause it, so I am going to try to lance the boil now. I do not guarantee his survival at SHF, but I will do my best to sit on my hands.

A Moron suggested earlier that MD's scaling out function was not working properly. Then he stated that he was using a pre-fix version - go up a couple of posts or so.

I am starting to foam at the mouth at bit as I write this, so let's cut to the chase?

How the flying fuck does anyone using a pre-fixed version expect it to bloody well work? How sodding stupid is that? Are we talking moron, or what?

Now, anyone who has kept up with my Thingies That Happen to Steve in his Other Job will be only too well aware that I do not regard myself as God. She invented men, so I am clearly absolved of aspiring to such a status.

Even here where, frankly, I am God, I accept that I make mistakes.

So, with the greatest possible (and possibly misplaced) modesty, I can say that I do not expect members to hang on my every word. I get stuff wrong. I make mistakes. Mostly, I apologise.

But here, in this thread, I AM THE FUCKING CODER. Is it really too much to ask that folks read my posts when I write about an update? When said update is about a fix? That I have tested? And proven to work?

Really?

REALLY?

Hmmmmmmmm. Foaming is not subsiding as I write, so I will stop.

Actually, no, I won't. A couple of weeks ago or so, a previously valued member called 'stimpy' got a ban because he was stupid enough to insist that a simple piece of MPTM code that I had tested thoroughly was not working. I tested it again. It worked perfectly. This moron insisted that it did not. He picked a fight with me. He lost. Guess what happens when you pick a fight with the forum owner.

Folks, it is a bad idea to accuse my code of being faulty instead of assuming that you are using it incorrectly. Only an idiot does that.

Only a cretin refuses to read my posts and then accuses my fixed code of being faulty because he was too stupid to read about the updated fixes.

OK, so I really had better stop now, as the foaming is not subsided.

I trust I make my point?

Just so you know folks, I am still foaming.

And the fucking code continues to work perfectly.

To my total lack of anything resembling surprise, let alone astonishment.

My mood will subside. Give it a couple of weeks or so.

What is your TP and SL settings?
Looking at trading history, I am guessing 30 pips SL and 100 pips TP?
Are there anything else different from Steve's?

Hi All
I have also set up a couple of demo accounts.
This one has a deposit of $10,000 and a lot size of 0.5 so half of what Steve's demos have.
However it has a basket close of $500 so proportionally a 1/4 of Steve's $4000 TP smallest demo
All the other settings are the same.

Hello TradingMastermind,
Your account is also performing well.
Steve is without a doubt a fantastic person, with exceptional skills when developing this EA.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the skills, because I don’t know programming
So my contribution is to test the MD and find the best formula, I think we should all do it.
Regarding my demo, it has 1 lot per 20K, but the margin reached 380% (7 open trades), far from 1000%, considered comfortable by Steve, plus an open trade and a market inversion, results could be the opposite.
I still haven't been able to obtain a tool that would allow me to analyze the account's mage history vs open trades vs accumulated lots.
From this point, it was easier to get the lot / investment ratio right, I think we would get the correct formula faster.
Does anyone know any indicator that does this?
I am an apologist for giving to receive, so whenever the results are good I will share, as long as I am not violating any rules of this forum and I'm sorry Steve if I'm doing it, if so just let me know.
Here is my weekly report since the beginning of this demo.
We'll see how it performs in the coming weeks.
Cheers :hi:

I am happy for my margin level to drop to low levels. Trades do not hang around for ages so I just keep the shirt protection inputs to 125% for just-in-case.

My $12,000 target demo was slaughtered last week. The profit on a bunch of trades reached over $8,500 at one point but then the markets turned around and it has been downhill ever since. The $20,000 deposit is down to $8,375. Oops.

My $8,000 target demo just held its own in terms of the current equity of $20,027.

My $4,000 target demo hit its TP target once, but then fell back. It finished the week on $18,325.

Another demo that I started on April 9th is doing fine. This has a target of $4,000 just in case a position gets that far but the individual trades also have an initial TP of 120 pips. This appears to help avoid the fate of the $12,000 target demo. The balance on the demo is $24,264 with no trades open.
