Now it is early days and could be a different story in a month but here's one thing I am seeing this week.

I shared a demo account a few posts back and it was doing quite well until the last couple of days. Here's a screenshot from MyFxBook

I set up a few tests on that day and this one is interesting. It has the exact same settings as the above account except it places the first order 20 pips away but then 4 more orders 10 pips between them.

It has made a major difference to profitability this week.

Those of us using my defaults or close to them have experienced the same thingy. Great start to the week. Gave it all back x 2 as the week progressed.

This chart illustrates why (ignore the open trades):

The market would cross the moving average for 50/60/70 pips and then retrace and travel to the opposite side of it, closing the trades and sending opposite direction stop orders. There would have been three trades triggered going with the defaults, costing us a lot.

TM has not said what his individual grid trades TP, but with a TP of initial trade plus 70, this would have been reached by several of the swings, netting him profits rather than losses.

So my defaults are aimed at catching those big moves that are so profitable. It looks as though TM's is aimed at catching the smaller ones. Lots of small profits eventually grow into large ones.

My no individual trade TP of nothing and only aiming for global basket TP's only demos have been a wipe out so I will shut them down this weekend. I will start two fresh demos at the same time: one with my defaults and one with much more conservative settings. Timing is sooooo important when trading, so this will be trading like with like. We shall see which comes out ahead in the long run.

Not sure if it helps in this case, but I have learned to jump move all my stops to the grid level behind the last one hit. Otherwise you will lose your profits and get hurt very bad if the market reverses.

Same as already said above this week, this one scaled down version of default, have now adjusted to Bodavid's idea of BE and JS to have stops above last grid trade taken:

This is the small live account but intervened seriously at end of week and actually turned off MD on Friday, (was short manually GBP/JPY, this was based partly on rejection from 480 MA without crossing so maybe has relevance here )

V 1l is in post 1. I have added an input that allows users to limit the number of pairs trading at any one time.

The new input is MaxPairsAllowed and is the second input in the Grid trading section. The default of zero turns this filter off.

One of our newer members is Rueben. Rueben wrote to me last week offering to proof read the user guide. I took him up on the offer and he did indeed spot some bloops. Thanks Rueben.

Looking through the trade report that system has closed off 19 No. $500 baskets and no trade has got to Takeprofitpips. Even if only one currency is being traded it gets to a $500 basket before 120pips

I'm going to set up another test with a reduced Takeprofitpips and see how it performs.
