This means that trades are always opened at the beginning of a trend.

Paul,

Not urgent but is it possible in the next release to make the use of thresholds and the applicable levels configurable?

New version, v1d, in post 1.

Changes:
  • Added user setting 'UseStartingTreshold' to enable or disable using starting tresholds.
  • Added user setting 'StartingTreshold' to set the starting treshold. Currencies wait until they have been ranging (> -StartingTreshold, < StartingTreshold) to begin trading.
Enjoy,

Paul

hello Paul,

i have been testing this superb ea on all time frames from m5 all the way to d1 and i must say it does indeed work flawlessly! kudos to you Paul!

but of course , using it on anything less than the d1 time frame will result in massive losses as well as massive gains which then get wiped out by the subsequent losses cos of the whipsawing price action on lower time frames. lol!. on d1 its a different story since the trends are enduring. looking at the charts, i noticed that if trading on 'difference' on the cssdiff, a value of 0.6-0.7 on the daily typically results in a strong uptrend n vice versa for downtrends.

i was wondering if it would be helpful to include a dwmpivot(another superb tool from Paul) filter in the ea, such that if the conditions for a buy are fulfilled, the ea checks if the daily pivot is above the weekly pivot, if so, it then proceeds to fire the trade. vice versa for sells.

thanks again Paul!

Hi Joe,

I too did some testing on the M15, H1 and D1. I too realised that, on the M15, it was difficult to find the right open/close setting.
On the H1, I had fairly descent results with open/close on Diff = 1.6/1.2 (will have to check these figures to be sure cos not at home at the mo). Those values are a bit high I admit but it does seem to do a good job at selecting only the big moves and avoid most of the subsequent retracement.
On D1, I did not have any trades triggered yet during about 2 weeks testing. I think this is mainly because I had the open/close set too high for the D1 TF i.e. 2.4/0.8. Since the end of last week, I am testing 1.2/0.8 on the D1 and will see how it goes.

Will be good if you could share the setups you already tested so as to avoid redondancies and speed up the narrowing process on the best setups for each TF.

Good day folks!

Hi Paul,

I've been looking at the slope difference for other trading ideas and running your EA separately, on pretty much default settings, for trade by level and also comparing trade by difference.

What has become clear is that the thresholds only make sense as they currently are when you trade by level.

For example you could have 2 currencies that are both really strong - like AUD & NZD (both strong at the moment). If they were very close - say both +0.8 and NZD suddenly became relatively weak for whatever reason you would definitely want to trade the AUDNZD pair. So I think the threshold for the EA when trading by difference should have a "difference" threshold for each pair - so the difference has to go below mod(0.4) or whatever value works? I hope this makes sense - if not please let me know as I think this would be a significant improvement to what is already looking very good!

EDIT: I just re-read this and I won't win any awards for clarity  What I am really getting at is that the key for the "trade by difference" version (and therefore the threshold) is the relative difference in the strength of the pairs not their absolute strength or weakness.

Everyone else trading this - Joe? Have you used the threshold values? It seems like you have had a lot more trades than me. Mine only kicked off trades on Friday but did very well - just running D1.

Cheers,
Dave.

hello Zypip,

i ran the ea on 2 mt4s, one was trading by difference n the other by level, trading from the m5 to the d1. it was pretty much default levels but the losses were as big as the profits or bigger so i had to keep starting new demos. lol!

i also tweaked the figures so that they would trigger earlier like 0.7 for difference and for level i used 0.3...same thing, massive losses n gains cos of the whipsaws. eventually,i got sick and tired of the losing trades so i decided to just stick to the d1 timeframe using 0.7 for difference and 0.3 for level. the account i stated last friday is up 900pips(by difference) and 400pips(by level) !!! pity this is on demo!

but i believe it will work out well on live as long as we stick to the d1 timeframe. perhaps the pivot filter will further ensure that we stay on the right side of the trend.

Spotdespot,

about the thresholds, i think Paul mentioned that they remain valid even when we trade by difference. the thing is on the d1 timeframe, sometimes if we set the threshold at 0.3, we might not get trades for a long period so when i set up the ea for last friday , i disabled the threshold function.
i believe when the trades fired last friday, the diff for most of the triggered pairs was btw 0.8 to 1.0,
so i guess if the difference is ard that value, the trend shld work out nicely. perhaps when we trade by difference we can set the threshold to 0.5? may get more trades on the d1.
