Zool and gary, very interesting but, be aware when backtesting with the "recalculating" / "repaint" past/history issue.
If there is something that I´ve learned when backtesting and when one design/modify some strategy is to use only indicators which have the "true" / "ignorefuture" function.
Of course IMO ;)

The more I look at this TMA true, I cannot help but think about other entries and exits. This is somewhat against bob's rules and is a long term basket trade. I am thinking about basket trading D1 trending pairs, but entering on majority TSA reversal peaks on the 4H (regardless of pivots or MA, which are somewhat arbitrary) and then exiting after 4H returns up past 0.4. For example, a sell would only trigger when D1 is trending down and 4H peaks above 0 but is reversing down (i.e., is reversing). Here is the hard part: Exit after 4H crosses below 0 and eventually returns back up to -0.4. Reenter when trigger criteria hits again or when 4H TMA falls below -0.4 (if it does not peak above 0, and assuming D1 is still in down trend). The same critera apply to lower timeframe trades. Just throwing this out there as visual backtests looks good.

nonlinear, I'm trying something like that. I'm trading pairs with strong D1 slope, but entering when the H1 slope turns. I figure that is driven by actual PA, as opposed to entering at pivots or MAs which as you say are fairly arbitrary. Plus entering when the H1 turns tends to get you in at the extreme of the move, so by the time it hits the pivot you're already well into profit.

I've been taking any pairs with D1 slope > 0.6, but I may decide to restrict that to pairs with D1 slope trending in the right direction.

dentiok, zool is looking at the actual combined price of two pairs. There's no repainting there.

Gary, That would make sense for short term trades, but you will miss some huge moves due to the hourly noise. If you like that short term approach, you will get more trades on the hourly if you trade the trend based on the 4H, but that is just my quick view.

The only reason I had this idea is because I noticed how close the TMA true is to MACD. The signals are nearly identical in many respects (see the TMA slope thread). I even wonder if there is any significant difference and we are all rehashing what everyone did years ago when MACD came out. LOL. Have to learn one way or another....

No, I'm trading the D1 slope, shooting for those big moves. I'm just using the H1 to fine-tune my entries. H4 might work better than H1. It doesn't give as many entry opportunities, and they're a little slower than H1, but they do seem to be well-timed.

I agree you might ocassionally find a better entry on the H1, but you will get burnt a few times as well. With the large moves, an entry on 4H should confirm the move. If you want the large moves, the entry is not nearly as critical as the exit. If you want the Shelly type in an out, the hourly is great.

Thanks to my failing stop loss my basket is still alive ;) and kicking
I put on some recovery trades and start smiling again from -1500 back to -750
the missed stop loss was set at -1000
If it bounce I will take off the recovery trades and wait till it dives again.

After all it all spiked on some Italian pep talk " very well backed air " as we all know Italians are great chef's :D

No problem here with ShellyNow I used MPBM to take care of the trades.
ShelleyNow worked well in the past for all open trades if magic number = 0, so next time I just let my ShelleyNow on to manage my basket.

just check your magic number setting

Gary, after further looking at the H1, it looks like it is good for short moves. One could see recently how how you would have enterd on the H1 peak, but would have had to exit around the pivot touch (or the H4/H1 cross - they look nearly the same) for a decent profit, depending on your stop. I am thinking this quick exit works best when the D1 slope is showing weakness, i.e., clearly sloping up. I hope I am not getting too far off point in Jem's thread.
