Slopey Graeme: another pipEasy-inspired trend trading EA

Graeme has recouped all its drawdown from last week, and the account balance is up 12%.

We will see what happens next week.

It has been a see-saw week for G. The account balance is little changed, still up 12.6%.

Not much change from last week, demo account still up 12.5%.

Next update in a fortnight unless there is a significant change in G's performance.

Graeme has failed to make any further progress in the past few weeks. It has lost about 5% of equity in the past week.

I have decided to end the demo here. Attached is the final statement.

This isn't a short term system. It needs at least medium term trend to prosper and we haven't really had one of those yet this year with the possible exception of some JPY weakness.

It is a great pity, I agree. But there are only a limited number of EA's one can test drive at any one time and something has to go.

I am not suggesting that G is not a profitable bot, only that it requires quite a lot of human intervention to be really successful.

What settings have you been using and have you done much manual intervention ?

Is your ea restricted in time window for opening trades ?

Any chance of a chart showing a heap of the trades taken ?

Here attached a quick analysis of the EA.

3 sheets :

- Raw data extracted from Empty4 (using DumpHistory from George, thanks again George for this nice tool !)

- Valid signals

- Trades due to the bug of Empty4 (no clue what the hell it could be ... it opens many many trades within a few minutes)

For each we have sub totals by pairs.

Having a look to the Valid signals sheet, we clearly see that the bot, overall, generates profit, but more important we can see on which pairs it works the best !!!

In the course of testing, I had to remove a few pairs that were causing too many bugs ..

I was bored, my ocd spot was itching but I could not be bothered with the 1001 complicated thingies I really need to do, so I have added Slope to Graeme to see if this gives him a new lease of life. I have not gone in to much detail in post 1 because anybody here who does not know what Slope is all about is largely missing the point of life.

The chart will show Version 1 because my practice of adding this succeeds the original bot.

I have removed all the original trend detection, Hanover etc.

You can still set the trend manually by:

• - setting OverallTrend to either "Up" or "Down" (without the speech marks).
  - setting both HtfTimeFrame and LtfTimeFrame to zero.

No idea if this will make any difference. We shall have to see.

Quite right. Duly done. Only the name has changed, so no need to re-download.

I have just started a new demo and am running the ForceLoadHistorical thingy. I will start up about 20 charts and leave it for a week - will let you know if it looks promising.
