Mob, spreadbetting is available in the UK as a tax free way of speculating on financial markets.

Basically, it's just like trading with a broker, but there's no-one on the other side of your trade [although it has to be asked if the retail brokers out there actually put someone on the other side of trades, but that's a different topic altogether!!].

Technically, this is gambling, so in the UK is tax free.

You just trade exactly the same as through a broker, but instead of trading lots, you trade £x per pip. This can be anything from £1.00 per pip upwards, although when you first open an account, they often let you trade for £0.10 per pip for some time.

Most spreadbetting firms have their own platforms and charting packages, but Alpari recently introduced spreadbetting on Empty4 - I believe they are the only UK company to do so.

That's it really - it's not much different to trading through a broker, but it's tax free.

There are a few others now - FXCM, GKFX, ActivTrades and maybe others.

Hi,

Thanks to all those that have added to this topic, the explanation was far better that I could have provided and the additional information about other spreadbetting brokers using the Empty4 platform is very useful information to me and I hope others who may be interested in finding a consistant entry trigger from Nanningbobs method.
Once found , tested and and found to at least meet my outlined requirements, I can investigate whether there are any problems using an EA on these spreadbetting platforms. Then maybe an EA can be produced to releive all the screen watching.

Yes - Alpari. They are crap. Which is to say, they are no better and no worse than most other brokers....

ETX Capital is most definitely the best spreadbetting firm, but they don't offer Empty4 [or at least didn't the last time I looked]. No problems with fills or dodgy maneouvres.

FXCM are OK, but again, no Empty4 [when I last looked].

Getting a bit off topic with this now, so I'll leave it at that!
