I came across this code in the LookForD1TrendTrade() function:

Code: Select all

//Buy trigger
if (type == OP_BUY)
{
	//Find the relevant ma to cross
	target = GetHighestMovingAverage(PERIOD_D1);
	if (Bid > target && bias == up && VerifyCrossOver(Bid, target))
	{
		if (iLow(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 0) < target || iLow(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 1) < target)
		{
			SendLong = true;
			TradeOrigin = D1TrendTrade;//TradeOrigin is used by CalculateTakeProfit()
			magic = D1TrendTradeMN;
			comment = D1TrendTradeComment;
		}//if (iOpen(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 0) < D1BlueMaVal || iOpen(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 1) < D1BlueMaVal)
	}//if (Bid > target)

	//Find a monthly pivot cross
	if (Bid > MonthlyPivot && bias == up && VerifyCrossOver(Bid, MonthlyPivot))
	{
		if (iLow(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 0) < MonthlyPivot || iLow(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 1) < MonthlyPivot)
		{
			SendLong = true;
			TradeOrigin = D1TrendTrade;//TradeOrigin is used by CalculateTakeProfit()
			magic = D1TrendTradeMN;
			comment = D1TrendTradeComment;
		}//if (iLow(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 0) < MonthlyPivot || iLow(NULL, PERIOD_D1, 1) < MonthlyPivot)
	}//if (Bid > target && bias == up)
}//if (type == OP_BUY)
This sets up triggers for long trades based on the Bid price. Shouldn't this be the Ask price?

Paul
Paul,

Since we are using Bid charts and all the indicators are based on Bid data, the convention has been to trigger trades off of the Bid as well. I assume that these are correctly filled at Ask prices when the time comes to pull the trigger....

Hello fellow traders,

I note there are many ideas regarding exits – which is fantastic – however I’d like to bring your attention to entries – perhaps they can be improved just a tiny little bit ;)

I’m talking about H4/D1 trend trades. Bob came up with his update in June and he suggested we scrap blue MA and use daily pivot instead. For those who missed it - I attach his update.

I had a look at my NB Autotrader 10.2 v1.2 trades: all profitable except for AUDUSD, NZDUSD shorts & EURNZD long – all of them went straight to SL 200 pips after AUD rally Sep-7. That’s fair enough – one could say – you can’t win all the time. However, had EA entered into the trade off daily pivot, rather than blue MA, there would have been enough room for 50pip BE to kick in and close @ 10 pips profit.

My suggestion for H4/D1 trend trades:

LONG:
- H4 Slope is >= 0.4
- H4 Woh is green (i.e. > 0)
- there is a cross upwards of daily pivot
- price is above monthly pivot
- price is above weekly pivot
SHORT:
- H4 Slope is <= -0.4
- H4 Woh is orange (i.e. < 0)
- there is a cross downwards of daily pivot
- price is below monthly pivot
- price is below weekly pivot

***‘EnforcePricePivotIntegrity’ - turn the price above/below monthly and weekly pivots filter off by setting it to 'false'

What do you guys think?

I was wondering if the EA has been fixed for taking trades as soon as its put on the chart? Last time I tried it took a bunch of late trade and it didn't go so well. :?

I like your suggestion. There will be less trades, but a higher percentage will be profitable. My vote is yes on the change.

Very interesting because I have been toying up with the idea to upgrade to 10.2A. I noticed only yesterday that Steve has a Shell EA here http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... f=44&t=802 that would make it a breeze for a new EA but merging 10.2 into that would, I imagine, be a little complicated. We will have to see. I am checking out Steve's 10.2A shell, but I agree this should be the way to go. Really appreciate the input from all you experienced guys :)

Alex

Any thoughts on the New Trade addition?

I also was wondering if the MA cross could be changed to Candle close above the MA rather than just touching it..? I think this would be better if you update to 10.2A, as I find either news or a pivot touch can end up with dreaded drawdown..

Started 100K Demo on 9-7-12. Less than 1 week later 9-13-12 up 11.2%, no losses, with extremely minimal drawdown.

Uh?

Can I invest every last red cent of my money in this EA now? :mrgreen:

People on Wall Street would happy to make that in a year.

Should have done a myfxbook account on this to get better details. I didn't have major expectations though but so far so very good.

Probably would have been a couple percentage points lower because EA settings were such that initial trades were larger than I would have personally like which I did modify down to 1 lot per trade but still quite a first week.

I know it's only been a week but a pretty cool week.

You can still add the account to myfxbook. It's just not considered "proof" if you're trying to sell the system.

I'm up nearly 10%, too (more like 8% with current drawn down trades). I've had losses, though, and been trading this since 4 Sept. I'd be interested in comparing your myfxbook results with mine. Let me know, please, if you do add it publicly.

Thanks

Jentlemen hold your horses !!!
This EA is not yet ready! A lot remains to be done. Take my advise and "play" with a demo account for a few months before even CONSIDERING investing any of your real money.

And this comes from someone who has blown a few live accounts.

Be patient
