USDCAD. Piv formation says DT retrace, but I'm not sure I'd want to short?

USDCHF. Clear DT. Sell weak reds, but suspect the trade was missed when the pivs lined up on Monday.

So, my [main] mistake was that price had steamrollered through monthly pivot without any resistance?
Because, so far as I can see, all the criteria were met:
DT according to pivots.
Price retracing back up to touch the upper FastTMA line [now repainted, so it doesn't look like it touched].
Semaphore showing possible end to retracement.
Then sell a "weak red" as CC would say![]()
I don't place too much weight on the Semaphore.
Would you rather take a trade at a pivot level than the FastTMA line?
It would help me IMMENSELY if you [CC] would post up some more charts showing entries. I thought I had it pretty clear in my mind, but obviously not!!!![]()
Also, charts where you're NOT interested in trading could be just as helpful!!
And everyone else, please post up charts. I'm happy to make a fool of myself all alone by asking stupid questions, but if everyone joins in, we'll all learn that much more/faster!!
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I somehow missed this post yesterday.
If NO checks are done for any signals of an emerging bias, then you are right to say that "all the criteria were met". But you DO have to check simply because the pivots ALWAYS lag and while good to use for entry whenever there isn't any thing new that is currently forming, does not change immediately when there is (ofcourse, if we are getting any signals of a new bias emerging, the "conditions to be met" may change accordingly). The system insists that you do check, and adjust accordingly where necessay ...or observe further (90% of trading is observation and analysis, you know). Consistent profitability in the forex market is no piece of cake and I apologise if I led you to somehow think it is!
Now, every new bias (UT/DT) must cross MP, a very strong S/R, in order to form, so we ALWAYS watch what is going on around MP. That, together with MTF highs/lows, give us our emerging bias signals. As you know, the most current indicator on any chart IS price action so when looking for emerging signals we first watch the price action at MTF highs/lows & at MP, then next we watch DP at an MTF high/low & at MP.
Add this to your current already-above-average understanding of CTS and you may easily reach "guru" status
Cheers,
CC
EDIT: One more thing - a new bias can only form from a retracement (**-RR) so this is where the close observation and chart analysis for signals are really needed (if **-RR pivots, led by PA, cross MP, the bias changes; if they only bounce off/rebound to MP, a resumption occurs)

Hi Don,
i had the same behavior. I thought it was my Empty4 platform. This is really not funny. How can we trade properly when such things happen. Also monday i had a short-trade where i set my SL ~20pips above and guess what. Price just exactly goes in a jump to my SL and goes back short. What a sh....
And Don; to your private situation: I'am dealing only 13 month with forex/CFD's and it has taken so much time to understand the simplest things and i know i have a way to go. It's so complex but one thing i'am nearly sure of (convince me of the opposit
) that an EA won't make continuously money. In my first month i programmed like evil some EA's but saw that there are not flexible enough and that even in my early stages i saw that i would handled the trades differently. Also knowing some real life facts (fundamental analysis). So now i try to understand 10.2xxx and to trade manually. When i have success in doing so i would look at how i did the trades and will program an EA again. But manual trading first.
For you i would suggest the same. When trading higher timeframes it should also be possible for someone who has a job. I hope besides your EA programming you are trading manually so some (not far away) day you will be a profitable trader!
good luck to you
Guido

You never led me to thinking this is easy!! I've been trading for 4 b%*&@y years and still haven't made it!! So I know EXACTLY how difficult it is!!
Many MANY thanks for the feedback. It is now clear to me that the "emerging bias" part is the bit I am struggling to see!!
When you say "every new bias must cross MP," do you mean PRICE has to cross MP?
I need to work very hard on the emerging bias element of your strategy, because I think I've got the basic entry criteria sorted in my head.
Thanks again,
Rob

Hmmm, a lot is going on around MP there! Observe this pair very closely.GT3RS wrote:Cable. Piv formation shows DT retrace, but it looks more like an uptrend to me!
Would be most interesting in buying weak greens, but need feedback from CC!
PA is leading DP and WP up. If this continues - and it just may, who knows? I'm not in the prediction business - one of the UT formations will emerge in which case CTS will advocate a subsequent long entry. If the move breaks down under downward pressure with traders heavily shorting the rally, the price will go back down under MP and resume its DT run.
I cannot predict what price will do. I can however wait for a confirmation of either the existing bias or an emerging bias signal and the appropriate entry conditions, then trade accordingly. We fast-follow, not predict (gamble). That way, either way, we win - with a good edge

A market bias is a UT/DT. To become a new UT-** pivot formation, WP must cross above MP, and below for a DT-** pivot formation. DP and price are dynamically mobile and thus may be above or below MP at any point in time, albeit temporarily.GT3RS wrote:Hi CC,

I'll be taking a good long look at your thread before continuing my piecemeal EA coding. Thanks, Baluda.
Your work thus far has been impressive so I hope you will not stop further development. A native CTS ea is certainly desirable.

Re: ADAPTING NB10.2A FOR LOWER TF & RM TRADING - 10.2A CTS
Hi guys,
Since it is clear that the emerging bias analysis can be a twister for ""-RR formations (UT/UT-R/DT/DT-R seems clear enough), I want to post the usdcad chart and my CTS analysis for it for the past month as I think that it typifies a pair that is currently choppy and non-trending (though that may change soon); so if we can analyze and trade it profitably, we should be able to analyze and trade arguably any pair with CTS. Maybe it can form a basis for for your doing a CTS self-analysis. Note that though Semaphore & Fast line repaint they change nothing, as only their respective MTF and S&R properties matter.
Hopefully it will help clarify things a little bit. It takes some practice to get comfortable with but pays dividends both in waiting out uncertain times and finding some good edge trading opportunites (believe me, an edge is hard to find yet critical for high growth). The pair only traded 4 times but if traded at 5% risk, would have grown an account by over 30% since the trades delivered an average edge of about 2!
I hope it helps. Do let me know.
Cheers,
CC
