Bob,

I like seeing things go across the screen too for all pairs at once. It's just that I'm thinking of SL/TP/R:R, so when I said list the pairs going down like they are now, it is with intention of putting strategy elements and hopefully eventually alerts. The way I code it, I should be able to drop it into a single pair EA "pretty" easily or multi-pair trader, etc. It's getting the rules down. I understand the TP is R1. You said you enter buy e.g. 5 pips above daily pivot. And the SL is how many pips below the Daily? And 15 pips TS? All this info would/could be implemented, with Alerts, in indicator.

Guess that's why I asked you to look at CTS indicator, to give you idea of how the above information, verified, put in with alert, would be. I NEED to be able to start trading profitably. I can't imagine doing anything else. So we help each other. If I got rules, there's a lot better chance of me following than me profiting without any hard rules to go by (and like I said, all pairs, or in groups if you want, with all pertinent info and alerts for trades.

Per your suggestion, you didn't answer my question: Are the groups you mentioned wanting the Volatility Groups (so I would get that chart and use those pairs, so the AUD pairs, etc. will be same on all brokers), or would I search through All Pairs and find ones with AUD for AUD group (same for others, so that your AUD list and mine are different because they are broker specific)?

Kindest regards,

Don

CoolNCalm is working on his strategy, I'm kinda on hold on that. Plus, I think CC would agree that your strategy is more important, as we see plenty of opportunity from your strategy. So you just want these pair groups side-by-side? Are these the same pairs as in the Volatility Groups?

Kindest regards,

Don

nanningbob wrote:Don I am only thinking of the indicator as it now stands. If you have future work and you need a single column to make it fit by all means go ahead. I was just thinking of the indicator as it now stands. I am going to work on the MPTM model to fit this strategy. Mainly using it to improve the risk to reward ratio. I have an idea I think will really work but will have to test it this weekend. Anyway, this is an exciting development. 10.3 maybe my best yet.
Screen size is what concerns me. I like seeing things across, takes up less space and i can put a 2nd indicator under it. Like my info screen that I use. I have 2 on there, one comparing the strength of all the different indicators and the other showing me my lots, profit and loss on all my trades. Anyway it is just a convenience thing not a necessary thing.

I had Stop Loss, break evens, and jumping stops on all individual trades as well as adaptive jumping stops, adaptive stop loss and adaptive take profit on the basket of trades. Adaptive take profit is what triggered. They were set in an EA, not on the chart where a criminal can just hit all my stop losses for me

Bob,

You asked doesn't everybody start with the JPYT session. Well, traders do. Brokers don't. We have three common types of 00:00 say begin on 3 brokers. FXDD starts when Forex starts: 17:00 PM ET Sunday, but FXDD server records that start time as 00:00 Monday. No sunday candle. Cowboy IBFX starts at 22:00 GMT, with 2 hour Sunday candle. MB Trading starts at 17:00 ET, and doesn't reset to 00:00 for new day until Midnight ET.

The pics with period separators show what I'm talking about, and the differences between what users see is obvious. Not critical. But when one says DO is above DP, and another says its below, they may both be telling truth. I would rather see if I can align to 17:00 ET as 00:00 for day, like FXDD does. No sunday candle, and every day opens at 17:00 ET. But then we get into DST, and how trading starts at different time during winter right? Where with GMT offset, it would always be the same because GMT does not honor DST. Nothing special more to code than what I have now. Doing this, I can try and set 22:00 GMT as beginning of day, two hours before JPY open, but beginning of Forex day. No sunday candle and everyday start at 22:00, not Monday start at 22:00 but Tues thru Friday start at 00:00, making 26 hours in Monday If I'm not mistaken on Cowboy IBFX. So yes IMHO timeframe standardization would help any strategy that depends on data collected for higher than H1 timeframe. 22:00 GMT should start week, count that as 00:00 for the week, and every day for week ahead would be offset 24 hours x multiple from this time. Every H4 start would be counted from this origin point. How to do this yet I don't really know, but in all honestly, if we don't want to keep going over this on every strategy (and I've already made getting GMT offset automatic today), then we can all be on same page. Only differences then would be broker's price and spread, which differs of course and there's nothing we can do about that.

Kindest regards,

Don

Good question I will have to think about that one in light of the new system. I may want range ATR over volatility. In other words the distance to the high low every day. That may take a new study and 。。。。。。。。。。。 anyway I have been thinking on that subject but want to take care of the risk to reward ratio idea first.

I like the pre JPY posting of the open, that way it can be traded. Right now I am having a tough time setting up trades for that session and they are there. Dont trade the aud nzd opens so dont know how that will affect those traders. Once we see it on a screen and can compare and back test it then we will know. Having everyone on the same page made 10.2 series much easier to teach and trade together. 10.3 was not meant for the 4H chart so dont see that as a problem. You can trade 10.2 ir 10.2a for that. Run with it. Back to work for me. I do my lesson plans Saturday morning so I do Forex stuff while running stuff off the printer.

[quote="ciliano"]I placed 17 trades last night at 5:15 PST on my machine at work. I just opened my computer at home at market close to find that the trade manager had closed all trades at the same time for a total of +513 pips overnight. 5% return in a day, I am enjoying this...

Ciliano
Can you name and post the set file of your trade manager.

I placed 20 orders on 6 pairs over the last three days pretty much at random as long as the red/black rules were correct. All orders were 2:1 ratio TP to SL. I had 8 losers and 12 winners. I am now trying to work on letting my winners run for additional profits by using Steve's MPTM rather than fixed SL TP.
I am also trying to be more specific in placing the orders closer to the open rather than when I feel like it. Most of my success has been during the early morning overlap between London and New York.

If these stats hold up even if there is no further refinement this is a Helluva great system!

Here's updated indicators and template for 10.3.

I used my daily open indicator, Pivot Points - Daily (Shifted).mq4, and GMT code from zznbrm that only gave correct GMT offset part of the time due to the code only getting GMT time. I also get and parse GMT date, formatted along with GMT time to a string like MQL4 formatting of date and time. I then turn it to datetime, and I then compare with broker date and time to get correct GMT offset. I may need to change this to call web less often, but I hope you all agree that these indicators should get us as close as possible to being on the same page.

Notes:

I have added a WeekEndMode that is false by default. Since the broker's time and GMT time is stopped during weekend, then the GMToffset is going to be wrong. If the user wants to backtest, they can make WeekEndMode to be True, and make WeekEndGMTOffset to be whatever their actual offset is.

Right now, FXDD is 3, MBT is -4, and Cowboy IBFX is 0. Sunday by the time we start trading, mine will automatically set to FXDD 2, MBT -5, and Cowboy IBFX 0. This will be done automatically.

But since someone wanting to backtest this strategy for non-DST time, they would use different offsets for those months, and can do so by choosing WeekEndMode.

What we are doing by using Cowboy IBFX is targeting "GMT Open and Pivots". If someone wants to backtest same strategy, except for targeting "Forex Weekly Open and Pivots" (FXDD), they can target GMT+3 instead of GMT+0. If someone wants to backtest same strategy, except for targeting "Eastern Open and Pivots" (MBT), they can target GMT-4 instead of GMT+0. All Bob would have to do, since he is already GMT+0, would be to change input to 3 to target Forex Open and Pivots, or -4 to target Eastern Open and Pivots.

So we have 3 different scenarios FOR TESTING ONLY.

Right now the indicator is targeting GMT Open and Pivots per Bob's current setup. This can be changed internally, and I think Bob said to do it so trades can be taken earlier before JPY open, but maybe that'll be the next update if needed. Bob should be able to do any testing as stated above, to see if there are differences, or if the differences are good, bad, etc.

Kindest regards,

Don

Bob,

Since all these are your babies after all, do you care to comment on inclusion of volatility table info in indy/EA as in the thread quote that summarizes your 10.2 booklets and spreadsheets on pairs characteristics?

http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... &start=390

:)
Athar.
[quote="disbellj"]Athar,

I honestly don't know how to lay that out. What would you have me do to make that into an alerting, trading, anything? Sorry if I'm having trouble with it, but I see some vague rules that if I understood how to implement, I would. Sorry so dense.

Kindest regards,

Don

[quote="atharmian"]Don,

Looks good whenever I get to make it work for me :)
Meanwhile, given enough column space, it might be a good idea to include NanningBob's Volatility Groups and brief comments, much as coolncalm has summarized below in his CTS thread (Oct 31, 4.58am):

That is a weekly volatility study. I will need a daily I think for this one. I will need to do some studying for that.

Guys in one sense I am out of my league here. I have been a 4H trader for 5+ years now and that is where I am comfortable. Those of you who have been trading lower TF for a long time could do a lot better than I could. Like the guy who suggested how to trade the 5M chart with a suggestion. I wouldnt have any idea how to trade a 5M chart. My first year trading was trying to trade the 15M chart and all I did was get killed. I gravitated to the 1H chart and stopped the hemorrhaging and eventually (finally) started making money when i got to 4H chart. That is where I have been (along with some daily and weekly) ever since. That is my comfort zone. For me to teach the nuances of lower chart trading would be like a first year teacher with a Bachelor's degree trying to run a seminar for teachers with 5 or more years of experience who have their master's and doctor's degrees. I would probably make a fool of myself. All I know, I was tired of sitting at my computer staring at a screen where price was bouncing between two points between the Monthly Pivot and the weekly pivot. This has been going on for several weeks.

I had been working on something that you could use off of the daily open for months now. Then Bingo this popped up on a screen and within 6 hours I was starting a thread because I couldnt believe what I was seeing. It is the experienced lower TF traders I want looking at this and wondering if they see the same thing I see. So if you have something please show because I am out of my league for now. All I wanted was something I could trade until the markets started moving again and now I may have something that changes my whole trading style. I maybe re-inventing myself. We will see.
