Is that how brokers know what programmes you use??

G'day! This question came from one of my children; after having seen the EA name come up in the journal entries on the Empty4 platform as it loaded.

I readily admitted my abysmal lack of knowledge in this area and said I would throw myself upon the mercies of the Forum - and ask!


Thinking about it: Is it the name of the EA as loaded into the Empty4's Experts folder; Is it Author's name for the EA that appears at the top of the code; is it an internal coding parameter or is it a combination of the above??

Your crim knows you are using Empty4. That's obvious.

But I don't think there's any direct way for the crim to know exactly what EA you're running. Your crim can see your orders, prices, magic numbers, comments, and I don't think anything else. If your EA uses recognizable comments, then the crim could tell from that. But I don't think anything in the EA itself gets transmitted to the crim.

Thanks for allowing me on board ... and here is my first post :

Logic (and the journal entries on the Terminal) suggest crims must know everything we do : not least in order to maximise their chances of sniping our money at every turn ...

And that (perhaps) calls for caution when experimenting with code : Given that the .MQ4 indis that come with the MT platform (as viewed in Notepad) have "Copyright © 2005, MetaQuotes Software Corp." at the top - e.g, MACD Sample.mq4 ... What are members' views regarding permission from the Corp. before he/she can amend/adapt any such (.MQ4) indi code?

My view is we should get permission - just in case ... because I think the terminal I see is merely a window of what's running in an area allocated to me on the crim's server and therefore they can detect any changes made to standard code.

That is, IF they are bothered enough to have their server software compare their copyrighted indi against the one being used ...

Not that I suspect crims to look for opportunities to sue us for even more cash by way of breach of copyright you understand ...

Anyway ... what's the general concensus (should I say it?) Guys and Dolls?
