The Incredible 10.4 - For Dummies

Since I always appreciate a Dummies thread, I thought it best to start one just for Bob's 10.4, A Complete System. http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... =38&t=1481

In class I would never raise my hand, afraid to ask a stupid question. However, when I re-entered school at age 37, I got over it. One day, a fellow student thanked me for asking a question that he was too afraid to ask.

So, now I ask. Here are Steve's comments from a previous Dummies thread:

Stuck with anything? Ask your really basic questions here first rather than in Bob's thread. If someone here can provide an answer, then it saves TIB from having to answer.

Nothing is too basic guys. Ask your questions with confidence that you will not receive a flaming.

Whether anyone can answer is another matter - we are all learning this at the same time. Those of us who have been around a while and understand Bob's mind-set will be quicker at grasping the essentials, so someone should be able to help.

NEW ADDITION TO POST #1 OF THE DUMMIES THREAD.

I have been collecting Bob's Pearls of Wisdom and with Bob's permission will be keeping a copy here. I started on March 3, 2013. This would supplement Bob's Update from his Post #1 at the 10.4 thread.

I'm not including every post, I am pretty much leaving out discussions of specific trades, which probably won't mean much when someone looks at this a year from now. I should be able to get an update every week or so. Could be a useful addition to your 10.4 workbook. I will strive to update it on Saturdays. Pages are numbered, so you can just print out where we left off.

I'll start.

10.4 is truncating the Stochastic Oscillator.

Go to the indy's properties. Uncheck Fixed Minimum and Fixed Maximum. You can also change the values to 0, 100 as well.

Don't forget to re-save your template.

Having said that, Bob probably wanted the settings to be at 20, 80, since that is what flattens out the peaks - at least visually.

I have noticed that my Sto Osc is different than the study guide. I have a few more peaks and valleys. I compared my settings with the template, and they seem to be the same. Can't figure out why, unless Bob changed something.

I'd like to do a visual backtest but my pivot lines don't go far - just back to early Jan. Any suggestions on how I can get pivot lines prior to that date?

In the properties for 10.2 WEEKLY PIVOTS, increase BarsToProcess from the default 200 to a higher number. You might have to do the same thing for the mid pivots.

Hey, thanks, I didn't think of that!

FWIW, on a different subject, if anyone's stuck on what MPTM is, it stands for Multi Purpose Trade Manager, an EA something Steve came up with and which was discussed and used extensively in ForexFactory. I saw references to it in Bob's pdf and figured that those who aren't already familiar with previous discussions on the topic wouldn't know what MPTM stood for.

In short are you saying that we should leave this setting unchanged because as soon as I Unchecked Fixed Minimum and Fixed Maximum and also changed the values to 0, 100 I got a better view, please see the attachents for a clearer picture of what I am referring to. The changed Values 0,100 is the Picture below. Please Advise !
