When I came to England in 1977 I was 13 years old and enrolled at a boarding school. After the easter break they introduced us to Cricket. The first ball I saw bowled in my life hit the wicket keeper right in between the eye and the boy was rushed to the hospital with mild concussion!!! I examined the ball and to me it was an offensive weapon and this sport was certainly not for me. After few years nothing gave me more pleasure than spending a lovely sunny English afternoon (mind you we do not get many of those) either playing or watching the sport. It is an acquired taste. I recall in the 1980s I was telling my friends that they should let the aussies keep the ashes but since then things have improved somewhat!!!

Getting back to the main subject, not in my wildest dreams I would suggest that you should approach twat in any shape or form. The way people are deserting FF I guess in a few months time twat would come crawling to you with remorse.

IMHO you should start with google adwords asap to get some revenue in. The way this site is growing soon you would be in the top five position in the search engines. This is due to the traffic you are getting and number of pages being added to the site, etc, resulting in higher ranking. Soon you will find that more bandwidth, harddisk , ram, etc, is needed and may needed a dedicated server in the not distant future. The current format is OK for a small to medium forum but you may need a template such as the one they have in FF and forex-tsd. I am sure this is sold as a template because I have seen quite a few forums which look identical in design and layout. The way this place is growing you would need some professional help also. All of this costs money and you will need the revenue from the adverts and pay per click to pay for it.

I am pretty amazed to watch the numbers here grow steadily and I think that Steve, you and Erwin et als should be prepared.
I mean, I am not even an EA or programming type person but I always read your threads even when I had no idea what you were talking about so I can see so many of your FF readers will venture over here and find it very pleasant and then word gets around.
Who knows we might even get a female traders thread started and not be booted into the lounge?????

On the advertising bit, Google ads makes sense. Assuming the forum sees steady growth, there are really two options

1. Bandwidth will kill you as users grow, need more hardware etc, need $$ for it, need to advertise.... so Google ads is a good place to start

2. If option 1 isn't an option - need to limit the membership. Putting a cap on the server bandwidth isn't a solution.

And the third option is to use the profits from the EA's to support the forum! The forum could incorporate and be its own entity!

There is a fourth option - subscription fee - its a trend on the net, but I don't like it.

Erwin will let us all know if the size of the forum starts to be a problem. I do not really know what constitutes a large one.

No harm in starting to think about it though, so thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming.

I would not want to limit membership size; new traders need al the help they can get and this is a fantastic site already for that. I cannot envisage any circumstance under which I would charge a membership fee. I would not have joined FF had there been a subscription; at the time I had no idea what a brilliant place it was to join nearly 5 years ago and so would not have parted with any cash. I shudder at the thought of what I would have missed.

As I so often say, we shall see.

I have been lurking on this site for more than a month. It is sad what has been going on over at FF. I was just looking at Brijon's profile He had over 3000 post now there are only 300 WTF. I know you need the rosette stone to understand him but there was some invaluable stuff written there. Cloggie Too is banned for beating up a muppet who deserved it. Hopefully more will follow over here to the land of the Free and Brave

I started a thread there on Jan 5, first time ever.
Terrible place to contribute or get help.
I even got insulted. I had hear about of FF during the years.

Did not do my homework, and made a wrong choice
to start my forum experience.

I posted in the welcome forum with some details.
Looking forward to give and receive here.

Welcome. All participants are nice here, some good things are happening. Steve doesn't hesitate to rip anyone a new one if they step out of line, so his reputation in general keeps most of the riff raff away, or at least just lurking.
