Got it - thank you!
There are several issues included in your screenshot:
  • The actual chart overlaps the EA grid. How to avoid this was discussed at the very beginning of this thread. MrLong also posted a template that helps.
  • The EA does not build up the list of pairs completely - I have no idea why. This was also discussed earlier. Switching TFs back and forth once helps. After that it works on my machines. Be patient at this point and wait a few seconds after your click ...
  • The grid background is set up by drawing several rectangles that overlap a bit. I also had to adjust them when moving from my development machine to test machine. Go to line 311 and try the following before recompiling:

Code: Select all

int	symbCellWidth = 3,		// TRY 4
	mainCellWidth = 32,		// TRY 36 ... 40
	cashCellWidth = 12,		// NO CHANGE
	headCellWidth = -1;		// NO CHANGE
I believe that it will be an iterative process to find the best default settings that fits most users. Maybe MrLong could declare those variables as externals so a user does not have to recompile. (MrLong, what's your opinion on this topic?)

Hmmm - just decided to post a graphics file to clarify about my grid coordinates.

Appreciate your feedback about those changes.

Jürgen
I had similar problem in the past and got it resolved by changing the chart properties as shown below...

Hi all,

this should clarify the use of my grid coordinates for those who want / need to patch.

Cheers, Jürgen

I have to start with a HUGE Thank You: To everyone that got here before me! Steve for creating this space for so many wonderful minds, Bob for an amazingly developed (and continuously developing...!) strategy and all the posts that have helped me understand just how far you guys (and girls) have got to in this space.

I have been trading about 7 years on and off and currently fully committed to Forex as my best plan for quitting the rat race. This isn't the right place to introduce myself fully but I felt some appreciation was well due to the peeps in this thread because you have all helped me so much more than you know.

I will be following along and reading more than writing so just wanted to say Hi. In the past 2weeks starting with version1.06 I have made 680pips on my demo account and that beats my live account that I was trading with my own (similar) strategy.

So I open a blank page and start afresh. I am still learning and look forwards to all that this forum may bring.

Hi Jürgen,

I will go with whatever makes this EA better, whatever you would like to add would be fine by me.

To backtest, you need to do the following.

string Pairs[] = { "EURUSD" }; <== enter the pair to backtest

//CreateSymbolList(); <== Highlight out, like //
//CreateADRList(); <== Highlight out, like //

extern bool useBoundryFilter =false; <== make sure it's set to false.

extern bool useOneDailyTrade = true;
Andy - have you managed to backtest the way you suggest? I tried your solution before on v1.07 and it did not produce trades during a period when the EA set pending orders on demo.

I agree that an optimization orgy is hardly of much benefit, but it would be useful for debugging and learning about some behaviours of the EA via backtest over a few weeks time, even if backtests are never perfect.

Thank you also to Brian - looking forward to hearing more about your backtesting!
Hi,

Yes I did manage to back test the EA, but the strategy tester was not deleting previous stop orders, so the the back test could not be accurate.

Attached is the back test.

Andy
Andy, what would be the right way to do a backtest, using your method including the ability to delete previous stop order... would that be some extra code that needs to be added to the EA?

In the next few day's I'll upload a version that can back test OOTB.

Back tests don't mean anything as they only represent the fundamentals, that may never happen again.

This EA needs managing, by the trader.

If we had an EA that just made money, then that EA would be a money machine and everyone would be wealthy, nice thought, but will not happen.

Anyone who thinks an EA can be dropped on a chart and the trader who dropped it, can steam down the road to the pub, have a few beers come home and his account is up 2-3 % up is kidding him/her self on.
