Reading Nanningbob's thread, he states that he really dislikes trading the CHF pairs for that very reason. There is a lot of unpredictable intervention on the CHF that causes spikes that simply don't fit normal price action.slipshod wrote:Ok no problem, was just typing ideas off the top of my head as usualfx8000 wrote:Many pairs that went into the red yesterday were entered many hours before NFP release. You would have to close all ongoing trades before news release to avoid the catastrophe encountered yesterday.slipshod wrote:Another idea - as the NFP comes out at the same time each month, would it be possible to allow the user to specify the hour at which its released (thus allowing for broker GMT+/- differences) and a boolean to specify whether the EA should enter new trades during, say, an hour each side of the report? If the user chooses false then the EA cancels all pendings and doesn't start adding new ones until the NFP is past. Might be useful for those of us who are usually asleep when its released
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. For me in GMT+ 1 time zone, I would normally stop all trading an hour or two before NFP if there is anything worth trading on NFP day and restart half an hour after news release. Yesterday, letting my live micro account running during NFP release resulted in a big loss. So, lesson learned.
Actually my accounts all had losing runs from Wednesday onwards, and NFP was just the icing on the cake of a bad week. The worst was a long on USDCHF at 0.9520, right in time for it to turn and plummet down. Then two longs in succession on GBPCHF that immediately turned and ran for their stops and several AUD based longs (and an EURAUD short) that failed badly.
Similarly he has also been discussing what is currently happening with the Yen. Again, this causes unpredictable price action unlike Non farm Payroll which comes out the first Friday of every month.
That is why it is difficult to write an EA that you simply walk away from and let run on its own. When you discover certain news events that could possibly negatively affect your EA, shut it down or eliminate the pairs that will be most affected.
There is no question we are in a strange market right now. I have to watch my scalper EA's like a hawk but I am still making money. Just not as much.
