Let me see if I've got this right.

On H1 chart:

Look for H4 fractal [this will print after 4 x H1 candles according to the indicator].

Then trade it back to the 100SMA.

Problem is, your H4 fractal isn't really confirmed until EIGHT x H1 candles............ or is it even TWELVE H1 candles? Not sure. But I know it's not confirmed after just 4 x H1 candles...................

Do you trade this live?

I think I'm right in saying that normal Empty4 fractals print like this - I'll use a fractal high as an example:

Price moves up to form a high. The next candle doesn't break the high and closes.

Empty4 prints a fractal, BUT this fractal isn't confirmed until after the NEXT candle closes, having not been higher than the fractal high. So, the fractal COULD disappear.......

I'm pretty sure that in order to be CONFIRMED, a fractal high needs TWO candles immediately before it to have not gone higher and TWO candles AFTER it to have not gone higher.

I'm sure some of the coders on here can tell us if I'm right!

Yep, it takes two more bars to close before you can confirm the fractal. The code is here: http://codebase.mql4.com/source/1444

The relevant bits:

Main loop doesn't look at bar #'s less than 2:

Code: Select all

   while(i>=2)
And it makes sure that bars 1 and bar 0 don't exceed the high set 2 bars ago (plug in 2 for i in the code, since that is the most recent fractal it can set):

Code: Select all

      dCurrent=High[i];
      if(dCurrent>High[i+1] && dCurrent>High[i+2] && dCurrent>High[i-1] && dCurrent>High[i-2])
        {
         bFound=true;
         ExtUpFractalsBuffer[i]=dCurrent;
        }

Many thanks George. :)

[Didn't understand all the gobblydegook about code though!!] :lol: :lol:

Is the code you refer to the standard Empty4 fractals, or the MTF fractal indi posted on this thread?

Hi mate!!

I wasn't having a go at you! I'm very interested in your ideas, but they are sometimes a little incomplete.

You can still trade the way you have outlined, but bear in mind the H4 fractal isn't confirmed for another 4 bars.
