Fabulous again Andy.Thanks.

V 1n in post 1, with the added check that the stack MA's must be separating. To save a download, place this at the start of bool detectMaStack

Code: Select all

    //Check the moving averages are widening - the direction does not matter yet
    double confirmation[2];

    confirmation[0]  = (MathAbs(iMA(symbol, timeframe, period, mashift, method, applied, shift) - iMA(symbol, timeframe, period1, mashift, method, applied, shift)));
    confirmation[1]  = (MathAbs(iMA(symbol, timeframe, period, mashift, method, applied, shift+1) - iMA(symbol, timeframe, period1, mashift, method, applied, shift+1)));
    if (!confirmation[0] > confirmation[1])
        return(false);

and recompile.

:D

Also, with the stacking trades I think we should have a tighter SL...perhaps something like the SL should be the opening price of the previous trade.

Eg, if you are using 50 pips for your distance between trades, then your SL is 50 pips

Any thoughts?

If not using atr for stop loss, BASA should already divide StopLossPips by 2 for the stop loss.

Would you like a StackTradeStopLossDivisor that will always divide whatever stop loss results from your choice of sl inputs by this figure, and apply this to stack trades?

:D

sorry Steve, I forgot you already did that for the fixed SL :oops:
So yes please if you could put StackTradeStopLossDivisor that would be great :D

V 10 is in post 1: added the stack trades stop loss divisor; added code to make all stack trades have the same take profit. Details in the stack trades section of post 1.

Hey Steve...

Just wanted to say thanks for the ongoing updates to BASA, I really appreciate it. :D

I think the MA stacking is going to be an excellent part of the strategy but can I please clarify this update...from page 1
Moving Average stacking
This is an idea suggested by Andy (MrLong), who also provided the coding. There is an input in the "Two MA - 'slowkey' " section - useMaStack. Set this to 'true' and BASA will only trade long when both the fast and slow moving averages are angling upwards and still separating; vice-versa for a sell.

No trading of any kind is allowed if useMaStack is enabled and the two MA's are not stacked correctly.

Does the 'still separating' condition apply to all trades, including the first one? If so, we may be filtering too tight...I think the 'normal' MA stack is enough of a filter for the first trade, and then enforce 'still separating' for stack trades only.

Hmm...reading back over Andy's post I think it will be applying to all trades and looking at the charts it appears so as well.

Yes. All trades. If your research indicates otherwise, I can change the code.

V 1p is in post 1. There is no change to the code. I have rearranged the inputs so that those directly related to Shelley's trading ideas come first.

I have written a User Guide - also in post 1.
