hi bob,

Re: 10.6 -- A few observations/ideas

Stoc Alerts coming from "AEP 10.6 STO ALERT v1.2 w-60-240":

[1]
these come in a flood and the same/related event is alerted repeatedly though it needs the trader's attention only once.

i set EmailAlert = true and got 15 email alerts in a span of 3 minutes, several of them on the same pairs (image of inbox extract attached). the same happens with pop-ups.
Alerts_flood.jpg
apparently, this is owing to the fact that alerts are generated from the live candle and not from the last completed candle.

perhaps, as the system works with H4 and H1 timeframes, you may have considered this essential in order to give an early heads up of an impending setup.

if that be so, we need another way to check the frequency of alerts, perhaps, some kind of time based or event based flagging.

another way may be to have a different composite indicator read the stoch values from all charts and print the info in the form of a table on a single chart page updating it at user-defined time intervals (OR by NewBar on a user-defined timeframe - M15 could be a workable default for the updates).

what one would achieve here is doing away with the pesky popups and seeing in a table the latest stoc status on all traded pairs. the following is a possible format for the table:
Stoc_status.jpg
how one would handle this issue in the case of email alerts still baffles me...

[2]
Alert Timeframes:

At the moment the alerts come in from the current chart timeframe, whatever it may be ... could be m5 in a given case, if the user was looking up something there...

it would help to have a provision in the inputs for the user to list out the timeframe/s from which he desires the alerts. the table above, in that case would need more columns to accomodate the remaining chosen timeframes...

Just a few ideas here...
i'm sure these could be improved upon.

cheers!

I am not having this problem with the indicator but I dont use the email alerts. The popups are working just fine on my machine. The problem would be in the email alert section of the code not the indicator and how it works in and of itself. When you turn Empty4 on it will post all the recent signals but that is a one time event. I am sure someone will look into it.

I guess I'm trying to say the MA line is a lagging indicator, hence take it with a pinch of salt.
So is the stochastic and pretty much any other indicator out there. It doesn't mean they can't be helpful though.
Agreed. I think the only indicators without lag are the Jurik and Ehler's indicators. Have you used them? (Anyway another topic for another thread)
No such thing as lagging or non lagging indicators. The other term I hate is repaint. Indicators do exactly as they are designed to do. Take past information, put it into a math formula and then paint a pretty picture on your screen as lines, bars, histograms, etc. etc. If price goes up they change, if price goes down they change, if price stays level they sit. People get all hung up about these terms. I dont even use them because I consider them useless evaluation of price action jargon. When an indie gives a signal or gives you info. it is accurate for that moment. That you make some decision based on that info and price doesnt go the way you want is not the indies fault or because it was lagging. What ever price action does, the indie uses its math formula and then shows you that pretty little picture on the screen. Even guys who claim to trade naked are trading an indicator called the candlestick. They also use S/R areas on the screen and trendline breaks. You can use the candlestick indi on the 15M chart, 1H etc. If you trade 1H candlesticks you are waiting (lagging) for it to complete and tell its story with that pretty little candle on your screen. If you truly want to trade naked, trade a blank screen or the tick chart. Now that would be trading with nothing.

I love the guys who brag that they never use EAs and then go out and set pendings, SL, and TP. They are letting the computer at the broker enter and exit trades instead of the one on their computer. Yeah Soooo ........... gives them something to thump their chests about. That is all it is.

Sorry for the rant but those that know me know these are some of my favorite pet peeves. My other one is if you trade eur/usd and usd/jpy you are trading the same thing as eur/jpy. NOPE. But you dont want me getting off on that one either. Anyway time for bed, had a very nice day. Night.

bob,

thanks for the prompt reply.

i see the same problem with the popup alerts.

here's an illustrative example taken from the day's alerts;

15:43:13 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 20 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:43:13 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 40 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:43:01 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 20 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:43:01 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 40 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:42:40 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 20 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:42:40 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 40 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:42:33 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 20 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:42:33 -- GBPCHF Stoch pushed up above 40 (REVERSAL BUYTREND)
15:38:54 -- GBPJPY Stoch pushed up above 20 (BUY With Trend)
15:38:54 -- GBPJPY Stoch pushed up above 40 (BUY With Trend)
15:38:40 -- GBPJPY Stoch pushed up above 40 (BUY With Trend)
15:37:03 -- GBPJPY Stoch pushed up above 20 (BUY With Trend)
15:37:03 -- GBPJPY Stoch pushed up above 40 (BUY With Trend)
15:36:58 -- GBPJPY Stoch pushed up above 40 (BUY With Trend)

there are other examples too.

my comp was on from several hours before these alerts and several hours after.

hope this helps.

thanks.

Yes it is. 1 quadrillion JPY = $10.6 trillion USD. Current US debt is almost $17 trillion -- so we have about 1.6 quadrillion yen in debt.

Of course we have twice as many people, and our GDP is almost 3x bigger, but still...

There are many ways to skin a cat, and I don't really want to debate on what is the correct way to skin the cat.
As long as you are profitable making them, then who cares right?

We also have the assets to overcome this debacle but dang we need a leader. You talk about a directionless govt. we got one. I am not necessarily looking for someone I agree with on all the details but dang someone present a long term budget for crying out loud. No person, business, company, or corp. can survive without a budget. I think the Supreme Court ought to call the continuing resolution unconstitutional and no representative gets paid unless they pass a budget. Do your jobs you bunch of idiots, it is what we elected you for.

Here is one idea that gets rid of about 40% of the debt. Gut the present Social Security program and start a new one. The trust fund doesnt exist anymore it is filled with IOUs from deficit spending. Just cancel the debt and IOUs out and redo the program. I have no problem with taking care of the elderly in our country and would be willing to pay for it but the present program is KAPUT. I dont have the figures but a simple straight tax on all income in the 5-8% would probably cover taking care of our elderly. That would take care of the crushing 18% self-employment tax that people under 100K have to pay before they even get to the other taxes. Big boost to small businesses and small business start ups too. We just dont have any brains out there coming up with ideas that fit today's economy. I guess I am in a ranting mood this weekend.

The whole 10.xxx series has been a quest. A quest to define the movements of the market. 10.0 started with a definition of when a trend started and when it ended. Now I am going to add to that definition and give very clear cut definitions of when a trend starts, when it ends, when and where ranges and when is the reversal confirmed or new direction confirmed. If you can follow these definitions as imperfect as they may seem, you can have a successful trading career. First definition this is when an UT starts. When price is higher than the 240 and the 60 MA on a 4H chart. Most of the time that will be the 60 will be lower than the 240. It will break through retest and then go on.
